Hey first post on this forum, thought I'd put up a few pics of my 30K ultramarines. I've been testing out a few methods through this project, its been a quite good learning experience.

cheers

Great weathering. Are you going to paint the banner on the bike though?

Fantastic! I really like the use of decals to make each unit unique.

Great stuff! Love the weathering techniques going there. Im not super sold on the cracking thats taking place on the armor though. Technically the application is good but it just takes me out of it because metal doesn't behave that way. Have you thought of using the same techniques to make more straight scoring instead of spidering cracks?

Fantastic first post.
Great weathering and color.

Though only point i can see is that for all the weathering the guns look way clean. Imho.

Edit: to be fair. Space marines use some kinda metal ceramic hybrid that we dont really know its properties.

First, Welcome to Dakka!

Very nice work! Love the weathering.

I did notice some silvering on the decals. I know there are some tricks to help with that (gloss -> decal -> matte). It’s a minor thing, but noticeable.

Overall amazing work. Although the Techmarines are probably going to have a word with you about letting the tanks get that banged up!

Yeah! And the shade of blue is wrong too. The Ultramarines Quartermaster guide from M30-31 stated that all arms and armor should be painted in Smurf Drab no. 7. That is clearly Smurf Drab no. 23. Also, the fade pattern is inaccurate for the Ultramar conflict and those decals are post-heresy in origin.

Also kidding aside the minis look great. The weathering is nice

Hey thanks for the great comments, they have been very helpful and I've taken on board some of the suggestions.
I have been busy so didn't respond earlier.

I will be replacing the banner on the bikes, that's why that one wasn't painted, I felt like it didn't fit.

The models I have varnished to take away the silvering on the transfers. The cracking chips where kind of experimental, I figure that armour in the future is a ceramic composite not steel etc. But i have changed the scrathing style to straight lines.

The land raider is indeed the wrong varient, but I'm not too worried, I spend enough already on that resin crack a bit of a cheat here and there helps to get the big toys. You will love this next pic, hahaha, mkII spartan.

That's mighty!

What's the conversion based on? I see LR sides, but can't place the middle/front. Or is it scratch-built?

Droooool.

Lovely work there.

I just noticed the mold lines on the engine. They do stand out, and now I can’t un-see them.

I love your models, and just to go back to an earlier observation that the guns look very clean: I think that makes sense. I mean, soldiers have to take care of their weapons. The chassis might get dinged up (as these evidently have...were these from Calth perhaps?) but the weapons should be clean and ready to fire. So I like that combination.

Thanks for sharing!
