So I am finally deciding to take the plunge into 40k, but I am still waiting on the new red books to be released so I decided to use battlescribe to write up a quick 2k list. This is my first time trying to write one of these so any suggestions would be helpful!
Hq-
Strike captain Alvarex Maun
Troops-
Legion tactical squad (20), legion vexilla, arty armor/raven's talons on sgt.
Legion tactical squad (20), legion vexilla, arty armor/raven's talons on sgt.
Elites-
Apothecarion detachment (2 apothecaries)
Contemptor dreadnought talon (1) Kheres pattern assault cannon, plasma blaster
Mor Deythan squad (10) 10 combi weapons, arty armor melta bombs on shade, Legion rhino
Fast Attack-
Dark Fury assault squad (10) 9 raven's talons, melta bombs on chooser of the slain
Heavy Support-
Fire raptor
So that is my list, the idea is to infiltrate the legion squads and fury of the legion turn one, infiltrate the mor deythan and use fatal strike with combi flamers, and have the dark furies DS in somewhere in Maun's 18 inch bubble.

Looks like a good place to start from. However, if your plan is to get in close and FotL with the Tacs, I'd say it's worth investing in the extra CCW for them as well, especially since the Sarge is already geared for combat. At that kind of range, anything left after the first salvo is either going to charge you or need charging to finish off. Not sure where the points could come from, you'd need 40... maybe drop some of the MD's combis (10 is overdoing it since you can't Combat Squad... 5 would be plenty, I'd think, given the special rule as well).
I'm not really seeing the worth of the Rhino. It's not going to draw any fire from the Raptor or Dread, but if there's any AT weapons that can't hit those, it's just going to get blown away. I think you might do better to drop that; not sure where the points would go, but I can't really see what it's adding (unless you have a specific plan for it?)

Well I could drop the rhino and that would give me enough points (I had 5 left over) to give one squad extra CCWs, the only problem with the mor deythan is that they don't get weapons to start and you have to buy them so any points I drop will be taken partially back up by buying different weapons (they got the option for sniper rifles and shotguns)

Ah, didn't realise the MD didn't come with weapons. How cheap are Shorguns? You're getting in close, might as well add some more shots and they're handy before a charge as well.
The other thing you might want to look into, purely from a practical perspective, is downsizing the Tactical squads to, say, 15 men. It might seem counterproductive, but if you're using 32mm bases, 20 of them is going to be super-unwieldy, and give you some force concentration issues. 15 with extra CCW might actually be more useful and useable than 20 without, who are going to struggle to bring all their force to bear and log-jam as soon as they hit any kind of terrain...

Well by dropping the tactical squads down to 15 I was able to add the extra CCW, melta bombs for the sgts and arty armor for the apothecaries, keep the combi weapons for the mor deythan and still have 50 points left over.

Awesome, that's sounding a lot better then. If you've got 50 points going spare, you could do worse than a Rapier. Find 5 points and you can upgrade it to a Laser Destroyer.

I just actually remembered why I gave the rhino to the MD, it was so when they infiltrate in they can get up to 12 inches closer to their target (6 inch rhino move normal 6 inch move). So I am thinking I may keep the rhino and add dozer blades to it (which would still put me 10 points under)
