Subject: Painting to show mark of Nurgle

I have added bikers and oblitorators to my army recently and given them all mark of Nurgle. I was wondering what the best way to show this was without going overkill on the green. Maybe just change the shoulder pads like you do with other marks, or somehow show decay on their armour? Also, what is the best paint colour to use to show Nurgleness?
If it makes a difference, the main colour scheme of my army is word bearers.
Any tips would be appreciated.

free-hand nurgle's sign onto their shoulder pads?

That it though? Thought maybe I should have some disease looking stuff as well, or do people not normally do that?

Free hand icons are a good idea. In terms of colours muddy greens say nurgle.
Maybe make the model look a little worn, chipped paintwork on the armour, and rust on the metal parts. Also some UHU glue for strings of slime, or mixed with BFTBG paint for gore can work well

i made a little trophy for a nurgle lord, that was like 3 skulls/rotten heads in the 1up 2 down format, then used nurgles rot to mark the top one with the 3 dot symbol. that could be a good way of showing it for the leader/champion maybe

Well, they are marked by nurgle, but not plague marines, so maybe don't go too overboard.
Perhaps have trails of rust by adding lines of orange wash beneath rivets. Maybe weather the armour more heavily than other models in the army.
So make it look like they aren't too hygienic and are slovenly with the upkeep of their equipment, but not quite uberplaguezombie mode yet.

I... actually don't know. Help?

I'd suggest washing the armour with seraphim sepia. If you want rust/grime, drybrush Ryza Rust in the recesses, and make a wash of 25/25/50 dark brown, orange and Seraphim.
