Hi guys been collecting and playing 40K for nearly 2 years now, not long I know! Feel like only just begun but got a decent grip on the rules just gotta get more games in (played around 12 so far)
Anyway Chaos is my choice of poison, I used to have a bit of fantasy when I was a kid but never played back then and just painted (and glued) them badly. I remember these other kids playing a real game with ultramarines on holiday and was fascinated and thought it looked mega cool. I never played or bought any 40K but I did somehow end up with a old 1996 Chaos Codex for 40k, I think my mum just saw the word Warhammer and bought it lol. These weird and twisted images though of 'Plague Marines' 'Noise Marines' and cool painted battle scenes and spiky tanks really were so vivid and striking to a young boy and just plain cool. The whole book was so cryptic to me (I didn't have a clue what it all meant) but I read it cover to cover studying the almost corrupt imagery and the whole codex felt like some sort of naughty occult spellbook, opening it up was like being sucked into another world of imagination for my young impressionable mind.
Thus I digress, when a close friend recently took up collecting 40K I caught the bug for it again and wanted to actually learn to play. With Dark Vengeance models on ebay it was good time to start a Chaos army, little did I know I would go on to spend a lot more but hey this stuff keeps it value right?! and to be honest I still wanna be playing and painting with my army of the next 20 odd years so in my eyes its money well spent.

Anyway I have a few models to show you (and a lot still to be painted and made) but I'll kick off my first post with a bit of the HQ section as it stands, some Chaos Lords converted and painted by myself. Comments most appreciated, thanks for looking - Ash

I like the fatty Nurgle guy on the swarm of Nurglings.

More of a fan of the Caterina set in Dark Souls 2 myself, like to stay Soul Level 150 so i never have the stats for anything much heavier.

Very nice looking warband. I am always happy to see that metal terminator lord/sorcerer, a really great model imho.

Those models look really well painted. I'd encourage you to get a piece of plain paper to use as a background. Just a regular sheet of A4 paper, or a manila envelope, with the models stood on the paper and the back of it curled upwards leaning on something behind.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Thanks Kern and Fifty, nice to get some encouragement hopefully can improve my painting in models to come, feels good that I've done some unique conversions in my army but definitely room for improvement. Would you say this painting is any good for my first bunch of models? Not sure if its tabletop standard, I like to think so though as its all fairly neat - sorry I know my phone camera doesn't really show the detail. Ah good point Fifty thank you, I did reflect on this afterwards, will have to get a better camera and background for next lot of models.

Definitely tabletop standard. Looking good so far, although I do second the point about the photos not doing them justice! The only thing I'd say you need to do is a wash on the red gun muzzle on the Nurgle guy - looks a bit plain compared to the rest of him. Agrax Earthshade is your friend!

The nurgle ones are fantastic - I'd say you definitely have an eye for the nurglistic side of things.

Can't say much about the paintjob since the pictures are quite blurred - I think next time you should use a better camera or play with the lightning and background a bit. The conversions look pretty nice though, especially like that Nurge guy Quite an impressive collection of Chaos Lords.

Also, that story made me chuckle, in a good way

Thanks everyone glad to hear some positive responses for my first few conversions/paint-jobs, not been painting long. But yeah definitely going to try and take some better pictures! Hehe cheers army is primarily Nurgle but I have a squad of Noise Marines to build (cost me a pretty penny for 10x guys!).

The last couple of pics are of 'Valdric the Bastard' chaos lord and leader of the 'Slut Legion' - long story but his banner is actually one of those chatline ads you see in the back of magazines! He's a fallen Space Marine who leads his mass army of cultists into battle and crisps foes with his magical flame-thrower (aka the burning brand).
