Just built my coldstar and realised I might need to remove the shield from his arm. Can he take the shield or not? I don't have the codex to hand and the consensus online is that the wording is useless anyway.

Coldstar can take wargear options available to commanders. They can't take signature systems. So he can take a shield generator as far as I'm concerned.

They can only take 2 items from that list as the other 2 of their 4 total wargear slots are taken by their missile pod and fancy burst cannon.

The Coldstar needs the Shield and Stim, in order to avoid being instant killed from a failed grounding test.

Only the shield helps with the grounding test. The stim helps prevent the test from being taken in the first place.

Hence the word "avoid".

It came across misleading how you worded your response.

Not sure how. Was a pretty straight forward statement. Knowledge of what causes grounding tests and why its bad for a Coldstar doesn't require stating.

Whats sad is I love the concept of the Coldstar suit, but having zero real options makes it no fun to take.

Yeah, it should increase toughness.

There is NO SUCH THING as MORE ADVANCED in 40k!!! There are ONLY 2 LEVELS of RULES: Basic and Advanced. THE END. Stop saying "More Advanced". That is not a recognized thing in modern 40k!!!!

...which in no way, shape or form alters the fact that the Coldstar would be more fun and usable if it had real options.

It's not the end of the world for Tau players. I'm sure CSM players would love to have something like it.

And I'm sure people with two abusive alcoholic parents would love to have only one alcoholic parent. Doesn't make it a good thing. Not directed at you, but the "it's still better than what I have" from CSM players in response to pretty much every critique of any non-CSM unit becomes very tiresome. Just because your 'dex is old and your units are sometimes subpar doesn't mean the Coldstar is wonderful. They can both be bad.

Well the real point is that its humorous to see Tau players whine about Coldstar when they have so many really awesome units and formations.

Oh so because we have a few great units that means its ok if other ones suck? What if we like to play with variety? Internal codex balance allows that. That is unless you are ok with every Tau play you face have nothing but Riptides and Stormsurges? Right?
