The grim darkness of far Fenland

I'm making my own SM chapter, the Stark Crusaders (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/675583.page#8371239), and I'm struggling with the chapter icon.

My problems are two-fold. Firstly, what icon should I use, and secondly, how do I create it.

I've thought about making my own moulds, so I can just keep pumping out more as I need them, using green stuff. I need about 60-70 at the moment, so don't really want to have to hand-craft them all in GS (especially since my GS skills aren't great). Yesterday I pushed a blob of GS onto an existing shoulder pad (from the Vanguard Vets box) to see if I could make a mould. My plan was to then use that to create a single icon, alter it to make it unique, then make another mould from that. I could then just keep making them as I needed them, and altering them as necessary for different models.

Am I completely wrong to be making both the mould and the icon out of GS? I've seen people mention milliput, but never used it.

As for what icon to create, the mould I'm trying is a cross with a skull in the middle. I want to remove the skull and just have a cross. Seems fairly 'crusader-y'. But I'm open to suggestions. Anything that's relatively easy to reproduce 60+ times in GS.

Or should I just sack off making them, and paint them on instead. Again, with the volume, I'm concerned that hand-painting them would result in a fatigue-based quality reduction.

Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts

Typing "custom space marine shoulder pad into google will give you many, many simple processes. Here's one. http://fromthewarp.blogspot.ca/2011/11/molding-and-casting-shoulderpads.html

Also, green stuff is a terrible mould.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Greenstuff sticks to greenstuff.

Use Oyumaru (instant mould) to make your mould; heat it in boiling water from a kettle, then push around the shape you want to take an impression of; allow to cool then pull out the original and press in greenstuff/miliput and allow to set. Then pop out!

You can re-use it multiple times by reheating it and then using it to cast something else.

i am also starting my own chapter and this is what i have come to .... Have you heard of press stencils or something like that?
Basicaly what you need is:
1 a hard clear plastic , like you use for file deviders,
2 sharp blade
3 patiants
Draw your icon on paper, if you cant draw it on paper you wint be able to paint it or use putty (greenstuff)
Once you have a design that you wAnt, place the clear hard plastic over. Either first draw or cut the design out if the plastic.
This is YOUR stencil.
Roll out on a smooth surface a SMALL amount of greenstuff.
Place stencill over it and using a blunt object push lughtly around the edges of your stencil.
Take a very thin blade ( like a scalpel) and cut it off.... Boom there is your own own own decal, the harder you press the thicker it will be.

@ silver, green stuff will stick to greenstuff, but the first rule of moulding and casting is lube, if you apply anything from cooking oil to vaseline it wont.
