Hello Dakka Dakka.

So I will be starting 30k within the next few weeks, after seeing the betrayle of Calth set.

However I am really stuck on which legion to pick, they all sound so good and interesting, I have narrowed it down to a few and was just looking for some pointers or pros and cons for the legions.

1. Emperor's Children ( like the fluff being perfect and fast, agile, swords).

2. World Eaters ( really like the idea of a more melee oriented army).

3. Salamanders ( seem to be one of the actual good guys and protect the civilians etc).

4. Blood Angels ( always wanted to do 40k ba, however I can't find any rules for 30k ba).

So yh just any information on these legions or in your view which are considered the stronger etc and pros and cons for each.

Thank you!

Blood Angels Rules just released in the latest HH black book yesterday.

As for which is "stronger" that's honestly the wrong way to approach 30k.

The biggest choice you can make right now is deciding Loyalist or Traitor. Figure that out first it's one of the more important decisions that will effect how you play if you live in areas sporting campaigns, it also effects the use of some special characters.

As cliche as it sounds. Find your personal narrative and the army youll enjoy the most will stand out from the other choices.

Edit- hit submit by accident
But to give you a brief overview:

Blood Angels are what you should expect. Infantry Heavy, assault focused and good at what they do. Shaping up to be an awesome assault army.

World Eaters are a good assault army, they do better with transportation ie Spartan an Land Raiders.

Salamanders slow, very slow, but very tough and decent with armor.

Emperors Children: Fast or can be. Unusual weapons like the kakophoni (early noise Marines) good in cc powerswords errwherr. And light armor/jet bikes

I'm drawn towards the legions I like the look of the most and the ones that are the most different to their 40k incarnations. I'd happily put together a World Eaters force with robots and rapiers and jetbikes and all that sorts of thing. The whole point as far as I am concerned is for 30k to be 30k. Traitor legions are more interesting to me for that reason.

Of course, you can also pick whatever would be the easiest to use for 40k as well.

Do what I did, roll a d20, excluding 2's and 11's for the missing legions and go from there! However, I agree with what's been posted already, Loyal or Traitor is your main choice, do that first and then it'll be easier to pick your favourite legion of that faction.

There's no turning back... Triumph or oblivion.

I do not have access to the latest book currently, could someone explain what rules the blood angels received?.

Thank you.

Powergaming is the wrong approach here. Blood Angels look cool at the moment, but I haven't picked up Book 6 (I need to for my fallen) but I would just go with whatever looks cool, in HH there are no 'best' legions (Unless you're Horus). Some Legions don't have rules or Primarchs yet and I don't think Book Six yielded any new primarchs.

- 535pts
40K - 2000pts
HH - 3000pts

- 40 Wounds

forgive me, I am not as such a power gamer, I am just unfamiliar with 30k in general, where as in 40k, the meta normally revolves around a certain few races.

I was unsure if 30k followed a similar basis.

As I play space marines in 40k, I was thinking maybe a traitor legion, I quite like the look of emperors children .

In short: No, 30k is a game more so revolving around fluff, as opposed to 40k's habit of revolving around FotM armies/lists. Build what you think looks/plays cool, and has a cool background.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

+1 exactly. 30K is for games that want to have fun, tell a story and generally be good to one another (player to player). 40k used to be this way, but now sadly is mostly WAACAHs.
