Is it just me that finds it wierd that an'ggrath, greatest of all bloodthirsters and Khorne's champion, is only initiative 5 whilst all other bloodthirsters are initiative 9?
I don't really mind in a gaming sense, he's gonna kill whatever is there no matter whether they strike first, but it doesn't really make sense in the fluff. An'ggrath, as skarbrands replacement, was described as being more powerful than skarbrand in all respects.
P.s. I also don't like the idea that some wraithknight could insta kill an'ggrath with a lucky D hit and some unlucky throws from me...I know I said I don't care about it in game but I don't want them hurting my an.

Either his rules are older than the current thirster, or they're a relic of times gone by and FW never bothered to up his stats when they updated him.
In-Universe, it can be justified that he's huge, so the nimble-ness of a normal thirster is lost on him.
I still blame forge world tho.

Init 9 on Thirsters is a new thing from this edition, in 3rd Ed they had only 4 init and in 5th they became Init 5.
Since Anggrath wasn't really updated since 5th Ed he is still at Init5, so either wait till they update it to reflect this, or he will stay like this.

Forge world have updated some of his special rules in the new siege of vraks but not his initiative.
He may be large but that is because of his muscles which should allow him to strike at speed.

When normal physics is in play, the Square-Cube Law means that something that huge has to move slowly, since the strength of the muscles don't scale proportionally to the weight of the creature (basically muscles pull based on surface, but weight is based in volume. A lot of math that makes my brain hurt). So a creature that large, even if it had proportionally more muscle, would actually move a lot slower than a smaller creature of similar proportions.
However, not only are we talking about the 40k universe, where the laws of physics and causality are kicked squarely to the curb, but also about the Chaos Gods, who further kicked it to the garbage dump. I wouldn't be surprised in An'ggrath returned with 8 or 16 in every single slot the next time they wanna move his model (and have a designer note saying how Ol' Anny has special permission to have 16 wounds and 16 attacks).
