Hey all,

Both KoW and UC are in the post, I want to give them a try and try and convince my little bro to paint his Bretonnians.

To the point, are there any KoW base-sized trays made form plastic that I can just glue minis down onto without the hassle of placing individual models down into a tray? Sort of like the old regiment bases for WHFB but in the KoW specified sizes. Google-fu reveals naught but MDF and I dislike that material outside of terrain

Any help would be massively appreciated

This is where I'd put my signature...If I had one!

I use Renedra movement trays:

At 100mmx80mm they're the right size for a KoW regiment, and if you want troops you can saw them in half, or glue two together for a horde.

A bit of work required, but hard plastic and good quality.

Eccentric Miniatures movement trays are in what look like a variety of odd sizes (4x7 20mm bases? 3x8?) but the 5x6 almost matches a regiment of cav or 25mm-based minis - just 5mm out, it'd do me okay - and the biggest at 4x10 would be suitable for regular infantry hordes.

Battlezone Miniatures do resin movement trays in just about any size or shape you can imagine including all KoW unit sizes. Their 1x1 size 4 conversion tray is quite handy as well, basically turning a 40mm base into a 50mm base which is useful for KoW monsters (I used them for turning my lizardman salamanders into Lekelidons). They will pre-paint & flock them if you are feeling flush.

Most of my KoW stuff is just stuck to 2mm MDF sheet with double sided adhesive sheets though.

Thanks for that link. I don't need movement trays (I make my own as well), but they have a lot of minis that I remember as later-era Grenadier figures designed to compete with WFHB. There are a lot of models that will work to convert my Oldhammer Chaos Warriors to Varanguar (or however you spell it).

Now showing Catachan Jungle Fighters and World War zombies!

You could just buy sheets of plasticard and cut the sizes you need.

I recommend making several troop or regiment sized ones, giving you the flexibility to put them together if you want bigger unit or running them separately if you want many smaller units.

There are a lot of places in the UK that made really nice looking MDF bases for cheap. I decided to make my own because shipping to the US was going to basically double the cost, and because I'm still not 100% certain which sizes I need.

I literally cut cardboard pieces from my KoW boxed sets and line them with thin pieces of balsa wood that I bought at the local hobby shop (costs like $1 per meter). Then I sand the edges and they're ready for painting. Each one takes about 5 minutes. Once they're textured and painted they look as good as anything you can buy.

For 5 man ranks (20mm bases) I use Renedra's bases - they do 100mmx20mm strip bases (I play elves, so I don't need 125mmx25mm).

For prebased regiments, I use Renedra's movement trays (very similar to GWs old movement trays - before they went to that modular movement tray setup thing).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

My good lady swears by matte board - but she is an art school student, so has a near limitless supply of scraps of matte board.
