I decided to put my army to the test against a friend who has a fairly strong khorne daemonkin army. I have been destroyed by this army before but this time round I had an improved list.
We were playing for objectives using maelstrom cards to get victory points.
The game did not start well. I deep struck my dreadcalw drop pod (using the rules from Imperial Armour 13) and it scattered to the side a bit. It just about went off the table, having one of the side bits just fall off, and then on the mishap table I rolled a 1. This dreadclaw had Lucius the eternal and his noise marines, totaling 500 pts including the dreadclaw. As this was a friendly game and was literally the first thing to happen after deployment, my opponent decided to allow me to move the dreadclaw half and inch to the side to keep it on the table and continue, as that would of pretty much been it from there otherwise. I have learnt to be a bit more careful when deep striking with it now though.
So, after deep striking I decide to move out my cultists, rhino containing noise marines, and oblitorators to get to good firing positions, turbo boost my bikers towards his maulerfiend and take control of close by objectives. My cards had given me an easy victory point for capturing a close by objective already. I start shooting lascanons and plasma canons into his rhino's, bloodcrushers and skull canon. The only damage that was done was a hullpoint to one of the rhinos. Whenever something hit a vehicle, it was quickly followed by a 1 or 2 to try and penetrate. Not a great start, but at least I hadnt lost 500 pts from deep striking.
My opponent moved his blood thirstier (with a str D weapon) and maulerfiend right next to my dreadclaw and bikers respectively. He blew apart 6 of my cultists holding an objective with his skullcannon and moved everything else he had into better positions. When he charged my dreadclaw, it quickly blew up from the str D weapon, taking our some noise marines with it. The maulerfiend also killed a couple bikers and I rolled a 1 on my melta bomb's attack back to hit.
My next turn went a lot better though. My heldrake came in and killed 5 marines out of a squad of 8 holding an objective right away. My oblitorators not only blew up a rhino with twin linked melta, but managed to tactically and intentionally kill the aspiring champion inside from the explosion. As well as that, the squad failed their pinning test. I had managed to pick off a couple wounds on the blood thirstier and bring him down to 2 wounds. Lucius's squad had two doom sirens which they shot at nearby bloodcrushers with and then charged them, killing them all before they could trike back and consolidating as far away from possible from the big mean blood thirstier (not that it helped). The chaos lord in the biker sqaud finally got his gak together and landed a melta bomb on the maulerfiend, making it explode.
In my opponents next turn, he deep struck two blood letter squads and three helbrutes (using the formation). He managed to pick off a few oblitorators with the helbrute's multi-meltas, and then charged Lucius's squad with the blood thirstier. Lucius has to issue a challenge and the blood thirstier had to accept. Now, you may be thinking this was going to be it for Lucius, however there are two important things here. Firstly, the blood thirstier had to strike last. Secondly, Lucius's attacks were equal to his opponent's WS, which in this case was 10. With re-rolls to hit (hatred from warlord traits) and wound, I managed to get two wounds through. The blood thirstier had to take an invulnerable save for both, of which he failed both and died. Lucius had 1v1'ed a freaking blood thirstier. A weakened one, but still! Was pretty funny.
On my next turn I proceeded to clean up his helbrutes with my obbies (I just had to walk up behind their armour and fire meltas, or in some cases assault) and blood letters by disembarking my noise marines from their rhino and being able to use their sonic blasters as well as blast masters. The game ended pretty quickly after that due to being able to windle down his forces. Was pretty fun.
