The Warhammer 40k Valkyrie is my first model in 30 years. It's slow going but here are some pics of my interior detail.

Here's where it's at before I seal it all up. Scroll to the bottom for more finished pics of the interior:

Here's how it started:

That's a lot of nice detail picked out for your first model back.

If you want an easy way to give it even more depth try using a light wash over the cables and pipes, and in all the crevices, it will give you some greater definition and make everything pop.

But so far looking great, good luck on the rest of the project =)

That is very nice.
It does look very clean and clinical though. Dirty it up and make it look used

Okay, I'm just about finished with the interior.

That's looking really good, fresh from the Manufacturum, I like the fact the inside is clean with a bit of light weathering on the floor, not seen it before.
I'll be keeping an eye on his thread.

Looking good. I used to paint the interiors of vehicles...but stopped due to the delay in getting models on the tabletop.

This is making me reconsider my position.

Meh. Not too bad. I still have a lot to learn.

I've added a few touches since the last time, most noticeably the chipping on the roof panel. And some smudges at about hand height in the side-entrance thresholds.

This pics were taken with my new camera / light tent / CRI90 lamps. I think they look a little better than the phone pics.

Progress is slow but I am ready for final assembly and then onto airbrushing and weathering.

Many thanks. I appreciate the moral support. This thing is taking forever.

The engines, cannon and cockpit are just propped up here, not glued yet.

The engines, landing gear and weapons will be painted separately then attached after my rust sources are laid down, and then the basecoat. And there's a bunch of 'fiddly bits' to attach (as the Brits say in all of the YouTube videos I watch); things like tracking cameras, etc.

You can see cracks in the darned auto primer I used here and there. I switched to Tamiya Fine halfway through and the stuff is like glass, so perfect. Lesson learned.

Reposting these from another forum, the conversation may seem weird since you can't see all the other posts from my buddies....

I laid down Hull Red on the bottom of the unit.

Then I prepared to do the upper side with a lighter color, thinning the Vallejo with a floor wax containing the hobby's legendary Future acrylic medium.

I also did spots with an even brighter orange rust for chromal variety, you can see it here and there.

I also mixed up a thin paste of rust pigments/DullCote/enamel thinner and spotted it around the unit. It appears darker in spots here. I hope to cover those spots and then re-activate the pigments after the final surface color is laid down, allowing me to generate rust streaks.

Here it is with the camera flash off.

Two days later...

I'm freaking exhausted. Tonight was the big paint. Three straight hours. First, two coats of the Worn Effects product. Then, endless coats of the model color -- that dark undercoat would not go down quietly. And the airbrush kept clogging up so much I had to do three complete breakdowns and cleans.

I mixed up a batch of my intended color, but it was very off. Then I realized I had done my test with gloss white instead of flat which is why the result was different. So I had to tweak and tweak and tweak and test and test. But eventually it came out exactly as I intended.

Here it is before chipping. Excuse the photos, I was rushing and the lighting was different every time I grabbed the camera. The topside chips are glossier than I was hoping... that's the floor wax shine. I think I can take off the shine when I finally spray the unit with DullCote to seal everything in.

With chipping, I'll clean up those watermarks tomorrow:

Oops, I just realized I forgot to chip the engines... back to the table.

Nice. I like the two tone brown scheme with the brighter spots.

Hmmm, somebody noticed them. Awesome. Thank you. I was worried that might be missed.

I popped the caulk off today, hoping to re-awaken the pigment mixture below -- but I could not reactivate it with acrylic thinner, enamel thinner or turpenoid. Now they were just big dark ochre blotches. What to do.

So I decided to try something a little different. Sprinkling on the pigments, I then wet a brush with the AK Crusted Rust products and gently tapped down on the area, enough to get the Rust product into the pigments but not so much as to knock down the dimensionality of the pigment. I want to give the area a colored and textured look. I only tried one spot but it looks like it'll work. I'll probably knock down those brighter orange 'fresh rust' spots a bit with a wash of the medium color.

I think once I start laying down the other weathering effects, they'll blend into the overall look and not stand out quite so much. But I'm gonna have to hit the piece with heavier effects than I was intending. We'll see.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The panel lines are done and look pretty clean.

I know the big rust areas stand out like a sore thumb but when I'm done beating this thing up, they'll blend right in.

Hammering it tonight with the oil based dot filters and acrylic washes. I dunno know if some of it will actually show up in the pics, a lot of it is subtle shading. Taking a little break then back at it.

Oh my fething God, I'm done! Six and a half hours tonight. Contest is tomorrow morning.

The Alclad 2 Lacquer Metal paints showed up a few days ago (ordered a month ago) and I put em to use on the engine exhaust ports and the missiles. The craft is a rusted, beaten hull but the weapons are shiny chrome for an awesome contrast. The Tamiya weathering powders are a Godsend, I was able to add so much detail.

Just a coat or two of DullCote to seal it all in and it's finished.

I'll post some glamour pics in the lightbox after the contest. I still wanna add a shell blast effect that will have to wait.

Well, my competition in the Miscellaneous category was sparse but I did well. Little Blue Ribbon and a $50 store credit.
There were maybe 25 total entries spanning all of the categories.

The two big rust spots on the struts are my only regret. Shoulda went with the salt technique. The ones on the vertical stabilizer and under the engine were salvageable.

Oh, look. The interior. I remember those eight weeks of my life like it was yesterday.

Delighted with this effect. I masked off the engine bodies and sprayed the exhaust nozzles, first with Alclad Gloss Black, then Stainless Steel, then Burned Metal and achieved the blueing with a weathering powder. Those little spars holding the nozzle were painted metal, but I brought them back to a green hue with a weathering powder to set them off. The judge noted this in his review remarks.

I decided to add some contrast by making the missiles look new and pristine. Alclad black, then chrome for a nice shiny effect.
