So, I am looking forward to this one!

https://war-of-sigmar.herokuapp.com/bloggings/517

From what I can make out in the tiny, tiny picture, one of the two Battleplans involves Pestilens vs. Seraphon - good news for me, no extra painting needed for that one in our Realmgate Wars campaign!

Also says 8 Warscrolls in the book, not including battalions - am I going loopy, or are there just 6 for Pestilens right now?

Plague Priest
Plague Monks
Censer Bearers
Plagueclaw Catapult
Plague Furnace
Verminlord Corruptor

I know there is nothing new planned for Pestilens at this time (because I have seen the release sheets ), so presumably, something existing is getting brought in/added to them? Anyone have any ideas?

Most of my GW spending has been on LotR lately but these guys are very tempting ...

maybe they'll include some of the non-pestilens skaven stuff that none-the-less still sort of fits in a pestilens themed clan?

like, warlord, or clanrats, or giant rats, or rat swarms (are those still a thing?), or, if we stretch a bit further, poison wind globadiers?

Who knows.

I'm looking forward to this one, and though I curse Pestilens with each unit I paint and swear off them, I think I'm going to bulk my army anyway with the start collecting set. I find it a shame the bigger box coming out has metal models.

No idea about the 8th war scroll though.

Never been too fond of Skaven, but in regards to the 2 extra battletomes I reckon its Clan Rats and Rat Ogres (I think that's their name.). Nothing too exciting but you never know, might get some fancy Hero.

Pestilens has always been my least-favourite clan, but that's not saying much; I'm a fan of all the Skaven, really. Actually planning on picking up The Virulent Horde, if I can get my hands on it at a good price.

Hopefully get some good lore in the battletome, too!

Had a quick look in the app. The rules for Pestilens seem weak.

Lord Skrolk had the best ability (D6 wounds) but now the standard priest does D3 and has to roll to hit (4+). This is after prayer on a 3+.

Censor Bearers have no save. Minimal unit size. Won't do anything.

The Verminlord reads the weakest of the Vermin lot. The others have weapons with rend and high damage input. One even has re-roll saves. No rend and 1 damage weapons on this guy.

The capapult is one shot, 3+ to hit and 3+ to wound. Left alone it might hit twice a battle.

At the moment it's put me off ordering the big box set. Rules read like they'll be frustrating rather than fun.

Anyone actually used any of the Pestilen units already?

I've found Plague Monks quite powerful, though they die quickly too. They put out a lot of damage with all their special rules and attacks. And the catapult can put out serious damage on bigger units.

Depends vastly on what comp you are using. Like most Skaven, Pestilens largely falls into quantity-over-quality so that can be pretty crippling in a lot of wound-based comps. If you are using a comp which accounts for their individual weakness then they do just fine.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

I don't use any comp. Tried one and went back to vanilla.

The Plague Monks wrapped around the Furnace seems the best option at the moment. Use the momentum to ram it into the enemy ranks as soon as you can. Use the Catapult to take out any horde units.

Reading the rules again they seem strong against horde armies with low bravery, but weak against elite units (i.e. all Stormcasts). Anything with a decent army save or range power is going to be an uphill battle.

Many of the additional mortal wound powers affect all units, so mixing in non-Pestilen Skaven is a risk.

Will have a think. It's not about the "power" but whether I'd have fun fielding them. The rules teeter on too random.

Oh, they really do

Have a unit of five following up a Plague Monks unit. When they charge, they will give even the likes of a Treelord a real headache. They then become a priority target, relieving the Plague Monks somewhat.

Really worth a look.

Maybe, but he is still a Verminlord and very characterful for the force. Haven't had any complaints with mine.

Select the right target, and just one of those hits will utterly smash its target. And the new Pestilens book seems to have a Battalion of these things.

Would rate the Plagueclaw as 'Solid'.

Indeed, and was actively considering taking them to the last GW event. We have also been using them quite heavily in the Realmgates War campaign - can post links to battle reports featuring them if you wished!

Thanks, Matt. I'll check out your blog. As long as they're fun to play then I'm in.

In the AoS app it shows the Plague Priest as the model from the front of the Plague Furnace.

So I guess I could base that model separately and then get a Plague Priest and Plague Priest with Plague Censor out of the big box.

I am weak. Ordered the Horde and Battletome.

Noticed a little trick I'll try - use the Furnace's blessing on the Catapult to re-roll failed wounds on its first shot. Against a unit of 10+ that's 2+ to hit, 3+ reroll to wound, 2D6 wounds.

Finding that combo leads me to believe there are more I'll find once I actually get these lovely boys & girls onto the field.
