I'm going to try to paint some bits before I fully assemble the miniature and was wondering if CA is the way to go for assembly. I've heard the plastic cement can ruin the paint, so I want something that won't (obviously, LOL).

Any advice? Does everyone use just the regular thin CA? I'm primarily concerned with set time as I like to fiddle with the bits for them to look just right to me. Will the glue dry too quickly for me to do this? Any recommendations?

Thanks for any help!!

Normally on plastic minis that have joints that will be covered, like for example a Space Marine torso to space marine Legs or something equally obscured I will still use Plastic Cement.

If it's something that could possibly easily be seen I always switch over to using my preferred type of Locktite. (Usually Locktite Profesional Liquid)

Plastic cement does dry more slowly than ca, but either way, don't put paint on the parts you are going to glue as it will weaken the bond. If you are using the right amount of glue (not enough to squirt out the edges, you shouldn't have a problem with it melting the painted areas anyway.

Plastic glue will melt through the joint paint and not cause problems, superglue will adhere to the paint layer and be weak as buggery.

Both have major problems with squeezeout, plastic glue will bubble the paint and look crap, ca glue will frost.

Clear the join of paint, then put a tiny dot of plastic glue on both pieces, press together, separate for 5 seconds, press together and bind.

If I need to use super glue I use this stuff, works extremely well and fast:
