So I really like the Gauss Flayer and I want to build one. I am not quite sure as to how I can make blueprints for one because most of the images only show one side of the gun, and I don't know the dimensions for every side and part of the gun. I've tried looking for 3d models of the gun, but no luck. I just don't want the gun to be too wide or too skinny. Do you have any ideas as to how I'd be able to get the dimensions of all sides of the gun AND each of the parts? The image I have attached is what I have to work with and as you can see, only one side is available to me. If you have some blueprints or advice; I'd love to know about it! Thanks for your time and have a great day!

Might be missing something here, but for the cost of eBaying a necron warrior sprue, couldn't you just measure and scale up a physical model of one?

I looked at the grip (when a Necron holds it, their hand covers half of it) so I got the average width of an adult male hand which is 3.3 inches, multiplied that by 2 to get 6.6, got my Necron miniature and measured the grip and found that it was 35.2 times smaller than the average width of a hand, multiplied 35.2 times the length of the gun (1.4375 inches), and found that the overall length of the gun should be 50 5/8 inches. Do you agree? it seems that the scale of the gun is 1:35.2. I just wanted to show you the math and I hope that you agree with what I've found. What do you think?

I can't really speak from cosplay/prop-building experience but it wouldn't hurt to get measurements of real-life weaponry to get an idea of the measurements you're aiming for.

Keep in mind that a Necron warrior is supposed to be about 8 feet tall when not hunched over. That might help with your scale.

Go ahead and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the 3rd Edition Codex have measurements of all the weapons?

Just on a basic visual comparison (I don't think there's any point trying to be precise with GW models), it looks like the 'green rod' should be about the length of your torso, with the axe blade being the size of both palms flat side by side.

It wouldn't be transparent, but I think one of those long cardboard tubes you find in the middle of wrapping paper rolls would be a good starting point for the rod.

Comparing it with the model won't do much good cuz GW uses Heroic Scale, meaning the hands and heads are out of proportion with the rest of the body. That and GW sculpts all of it's infantry models the exact same height, despite them varying wildly in height in the fluff.

The flayer itself varies in length in official art depending on the artist, but it's always a fairly long rifle-type weapon. I would probably make it at least 5 feet in length, from handle to tip of the barrel.

As for thickness, it's fairly square-ish from the front, so most of the gun's height (minus the axe head, handle and tubing) should be usable as a guideline for the width as well. Detail wise, there's not much up top or on the bottom that you can't deduce from what you can see from that side image.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
