Just theory hammering a new list. Pretty straightforward this will rely on all the psychic buffs to make it work. But 3 fearless VV's with a reduce leadership bubble sounds kind of dangerous when backed up with shrieks and invisibility.

I'm clearly not looking for competitive, but how well do you think this would work at this point level? How do the load outs look? Any advice for the libs? I also think RG is the best for this, but is there a case to be made for white scars? Thanks.

Out of curiosity, why the CAD? ObSec scouts? There are a number of vet/scout formations out there to choose from.

That is... actually an interesting question. I guess part of me still considers the CAD as almost "required" since I'm so used to thinking with a FOC.

That being said. The CAD gets me another Libby and I DO want other units that can sit on an objective. The bigger question is what formation or addition could I add for near 230 points that gives me more than the CAD?

I would use the Shadowstrike Kill Team from the Ravenguard release earlier this year: 2-4 units of scouts with 1-3 units of vanguard vets, and the vets can choose whether to pass or fail their deep strike rolls, can assault the turn they deep strike, and don't scatter if they're within 12" of 2 scout squads. Then you can add in the conclave on top of it, to give you roughly this list:

Shadowstrike Kill Team

Scouts x2 - cloaks / shotguns (I would go for bolters here but it's personal preference)
Scouts x2 - shotguns

Vanguard Veterans x2 - PF / SS / Melta Bomb / 2x Power Weps.
Vanguard Veterans x1 - PF / SS / 2x Power Weps.

Librarius Conclave

Librarian - JP / Force Axe / ml. 2

Librarian - JP / Force Axe / ml. 2

Librarian - JP / Force Axe / ml. 2

By my math that comes out to 1000 on the nose. If you really want the extra librarian I would just run a conclave of 4 and drop the 2 additional scout squads to get the same models that were in your original list in addition to the formation benefits, but I've found having 4 scout squads spaced 8-12" apart gives you a huge bubble to drop your vets into on turn 2 and is definitely worth giving up the extra Libby.

I thought about running the Kill Team and I think it's a good idea, but two things immediately came to mind. The kill team's bonus, while strong, only really works if you reserve and come in t2. This makes it work more like a reserve/drop pod style list. I feel like with this list ill want to start on the board for shrouded and possibly night fighting, to pressure early. And the fact you lose fearless and the leadership bubble means it won't synergies as well with the librarians. (I feel like shriek is going to be doing a lot of my heavy lifting)

Still, I haven't run the Kill Team yet and it's an easy enough swap.

I don't get the cloaks and shotguns. Why not keep bolters or upgrade to sniper rifles? This lets them stay out of harms way a little better.

If you don't want to reserve your force then the kill team is definitely not the way to go, if I knew I was keeping everything on the board I would probably go with your original list, maybe dropping some of the librarian upgrades for another scout squad. Without a bigger target in a list to take the heat off of them I usually have my vanguards shot down or at least diminished before they can reach combat, even with the ravenguard boost. The best way I've found to keep vanguards alive is to get them into combat before the enemy has a chance to shoot them, mainly by using the kill team. I also feel like ATSKNF and decent leadership to begin with makes fearless slightly less valuable on the vanguards in the 1st company task force than it first seems.

With the list I suggested my rough strategy would be to hide my conclave out of the opponent's threat range as far up as I can manage and use my scout redeploy and 1st turn move/run to get my scout units into a semi-survivable location in the middle of the board, then go to ground and pray they all have at least one model alive at the end of turn 1. then turn 2 I would drop in the vanguards and immediately charge something to keep them alive, while using the mobility of the conclave to get them into buffing position for the vanguards.

Granted I've never ran a conclave with vanguards so maybe the psychic support can help keep them alive.. What powers would you be taking on the conclave?
