Death-Dealing Devastator

I'm looking at getting into the art of kitbashing, and I was wondering what you guys use to kitbash? My current list of kits to get for kitbashing is GK Termies, DW Knights, Sternguard, DA Upgrade Kit, and Ravenwing Upgrade Frame. However, I don't have anything for kitbashing Guard or Orks, both of which are armies I'd like to collect. Post your favourite kits below, hopefully to give me and others some inspiration.
Thanks,
Clovie.

You should look into a copy of Codex: Eye of Terror if you can get your hands on one. It's one of my favourite books because it has the tips for making Lost and the Damned Mutants.
Basically kitbashing Orcs, Orks, Zombies, Guard, and Chaos Marauders into a hodgepodge of gribbly mutants. It gets your creative juices flowing like no other.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I've managed 11 Spawn out of just one box, and even converted up a AOBR dread to a helbrute. I managed to use every single bit in that kit.
Also the Ork Nobz box has made me about 5 boss Nobz for boyz, two big meks, a painboy, a wyrdboy and Snikrot.
I've also converted two old Gorkamorka tiny trukks into proper sized ones with a few spare (new) Ork trukk bitz and all the tiny accessory bitz from the Ork boxes.
And the Chaos Vehicle Sprue has made me countless conversion bitz for Orkz, Chaos, and even White Scars (severed heads on sticks are their thing too).

The new Space Marine kits in general. If you can I would recommend buying a devastator, sternguard and tactical box at the same time to get three kickass squads.

IG kits can be used together to represent stowage on vehicles, you can also use SM kits for variety or dead things on your IG bases

- Any starter kit orks. They are cheap and sturdy just saw off the arms replace then with other arms and boom dynamic orks.
-Storm boyz kit: Lots of great bits.
-GK terminators. These guys are just filled with usefull parts.
-Skelleton warriors The skulls alone make it wort it.
-Savage orks boys lots of interesting bits in there. I love the bird skulls.

In my gallery (with my terrible macro photography done on my phone) there are images of my Kktbashes for an Ulrik (Grey Hunter kit parts), Flash Gitz (from Nobz boxes and random ork weapon bits), Painboy (from Nobz box), a GK Libarian (GK Terminator box), Darkstrider (Pathfinder kit), and a Bortherhood Champion/Crowe (GK Strike Marine box).
In general though the Nobz and Boyz kit can be used to make any number of models for the Ork faction. If you try hard enough basically anything is valid for the Orks as you can hand wave any "incorrect" part as it being Ork tech so it just works.

Sternguard and tactical marines. It makes for very cool normal marines without being overly gaudy.

Warplord Titan Princeps of Tzeentch
|
Daemon price - every prince kit can produce an extra spawn.
Skyclaws - hysterical overload of bits. You only lack 5 set of legs to get 5 more grey hunters. (and 5 pads if you don't like monopad look, as there are "only" 15 pads)
Chaos space marines - shocked? Yea. You can combine them with ANY other marine kit to make unique combination of looks and styles. Tons of bits, tons of spare items.
WFB empire militia - best source of cultist/renegade bodies, just add lasguns.
WFB spirit host - "brake" each base to 3 models for alternate little deamons (bloodletter are my favorite for this)
Dark eldar kabalite warriors - if you can acquire copies of the female body types (we all know how), they make the best SoB base model. You just need to add some SM pack packs, guns, remove some spikes and maybe add a few heads (there are plenty that fit in the DE range. Some eldar too.)

Guard kits generally are really easy to kitbash from each other.
That said I'm always struggling to find enough botlters for my vet officers.

Utilizing lots of extra torsos and legs, from the sternguard kit I managed to make about 14 really good looking 1st company marines! I did the same thing with the Scions box and made about 17 good looking models out of that and I only had a buy a few extra bits online to streamline it.
One set that I have made a ton of stuff out of is the Wargames Factory Shocktroopers kit. With the torsos and heads from that kit I managed to make a serviceable facsimile of Steel Legion using guardsman arms and use the extra parts from my Skitarii boxes to double the size of each box since they give you so many heads, guns and arms. (ive got some of the conversions of this in my gallery)

This thread needs PIX!
Last summer I went a bit mad with IG/Empire bashes. Cadian Command squads for the techy bitz, Empire Hand Gunners and Outriders for the steampunk parts.
Some officer types
Low ranking guard types, the hunched over Empire hand gunner bodies are great, they look oppressed and tired when you put them down.
A wyvern gunner and some more hand gunner kit bashes.
Rolling into action
I did 2 squads of Arbites using some Brett Men at Arms heads and hand gunner arms
The other with Valkyrie gunner bodies

Kitbashing Tau Crisis/Stealth Suits and Orks is great fun!
You get Nobz/Warboss in mega-armour and Orks with converted/combined Ork/Tau weapons, perfectly useable as both Flash Gitz or Lootaz.
My Death Skullz Ork Army was one of the reasons i started Tau a long time ago. I needed bits for Orks :-)
