So just for fun, I've decided to see what kind of music warhammer 40k would have if it had music. Be for a certain faction, character, situation, or just warhammer as whole, what do you guys think? The 41st millennium would sound like?

"I don't have a good feeling about this... Your mini looks like it has my mini's head on a stick..."

"From the immaterium to the Imperium, this is Radio Free Nostramo! Coming to you live from the Eye of Terror, this is your host, Captain Contagion, bringing you the latest Heretical hits!"

The music of the 40k video games are a good place to start.

I've tried to come up with a list of genres of music to fit each faction. The problem is that eldar are either classical or techno, and everyone else is generally just some form of metal. Which is cool, but hard to differentiate without hearing it.

Also, I have been known to play The Masochism Tango on my computer while using my Dark Eldar.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

I started listening to epic-sounding music by Two Steps From Hell while painting, and some of that could definitely fit into 40k somewhere.

For example, the following I feel would work for something in the 40k universe, perhaps even a theme for the Emperor himself during the Horus Heresy:

And this, taken from the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, would make a good theme for Abaddon as he leads one of the Black Crusades (for best effect ignore most of it before 1:13):

I actually had this music in my head when I was reading Codex: Chaos Space Marines for the first time.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

That would be a tough one, for the Imperium I would see a lot of music based around choirs and prayers to the Emporer, at least for the main stream public broadcast. I can imagine a lot of electronica in hive worlds, and more tribal styled music and drums in the underhives. From there I start to draw a blank.

My GW would play this theme all the time:

At the time I wasn't very soundtrack-savvy, so I just assumed it was actually made for Warhammer (it is rather fitting). As you can imagine, I was quite surprised to hear it during a Danny Elfman spree!

For 40k overall, something like the opening track to Bladerunner by Vangelis I think would be great.

I'm thinking Johnny Rebel songs for the imperial factions. Except all of the references to African Americans would be replaced with references to Xenos, heretics and chaos forces. Example:

You xenos listen now
I'm gonna tell you how
To keep from getting tortured
When the Marines are on the prowl
Stay at home at night
And lock your doors up tight
Don't go outside or else you'll find
Those flamers a burnin' bright!

Now I know you won't believe me
So I'm gonna tell you why
The Imperial Fists
are gonna get you by and by
I'm warnin' you that when I'm through
You're gonna change your tune
This story's 'bout a xenos
His name was Tau von Moon

He walked into a cafe
He thought he'd get a bite
He thought that they would serve him
Since he brought the greater good
The waitress told him no
And that he'd better go
He said, "No ma'am, my Tau leaders say
I don't have to go."
So he sat there in that cafe
Bein' stubborn as a mule
No matter what she said
He wouldn't get up off that stool
He sat there like a xenos.
Said, "I'm gonna demonstarate.
I came in here to eat, and
I ain't leavin' 'til I've ate."

The waitess had enough
She said, "I'll call your bluff."
She said, "If we can't treat you right
We'll have to treat you rough."
The phone was in her hands
She gave him one more chance
He wouldn't go, and so she called
The Imperial Fists
When he saw them marines comin'
Von Moon knew it was too late
His eyes popped out his head
And his krooty hair got straight
He said, "Oh woe me, the marines!
I didn't mean a thing.
Why did I have to listen
To Commander Farsight?"

Now xenos understand
They tied up both his hands
He was at the mercy of
The Imperial Fists
I knew just what they'd do
Von Moon knew it too
I knew what kind of torture
They would put that xenos through
Now the moral of this story
As plain as it can be
Xenos mind your business
And let us humans be
You'd better heed my warnin'
And try to understand
Don't you demonstrate
Around the Imperial Fists.

Here's another Imperial song brought to you by Johnny Rebel, and remember, folks, y'all better sign up at yer local commisar! Hail the Emperor!

Drive them xenos out
Drive them xenos out
If they don't like our human ways then
Drive them xenos out

Our Hive World's been invaded by
a commie- looking crew
They'll change our ways and take our worlds
Away from me and you
It's time for us to make a stand
To keep our human ways
We've got to give a helping hand
It's unity that pays

Drive them xenos out
Drive them xenos out
If they don't like our human ways then
Drive them xenos out

They're trying to start trouble
By mixing up the races
They'd be a whole lot better off
By staying in their places
I like our world the way it is
I'm sure that you do too
Commander Farsight thinks it's his
I know he's wrong, don't you?

Drive them xenos out
Drive them xenos out
If they don't like our human ways then
Drive them xenos out

It's time for us to make a stand
To keep our human ways
We've got to give a helping hand
It's unity that pays

Drive them xenos out
Drive them xenos out
If they don't like our human ways then
Drive them xenos out

Drive them xenos out
Drive them xenos out
Drive them xenos out
