I was just kind of wondering because it seems strange they would do it I mean for Slaanesh that means no pleasure because everything is dead, Tzeentch everythings dead so no magic and trickery, Khorne would be powerful for a little bit but then everything would be dead so no more blood, and Nurgle everythings dead so no disease just wondering?

It's not that they want everything dead, it's that Chaos are forces of entropy against life and civilisation.
The natural end state for all the chaos gods is total destruction, but they can just move on to the next batch of mortals, which they did...

It isn't about reason or logic, they simply do. One of many nonsensical aspects of the chaos gods (that, IMO, really add well to the fluff).

Doesn't that in the end kill them because they would get no sustenance

Maybe, maybe not. Time isn't linear in the realm of chaos, if it is anything more than an illusion. They may perpetually exist in the periods where their foes did, or perhaps it will all loop back on itself, or perhaps they will simply end, or perhaps some other event will happen that us mere mortals could never comprehend in any capacity. And that's the point; it isn't supposed to make sense because understanding the chaos gods beyond the most superficial levels is beyond mortal understanding. Despite us existing beyond the unknowable fourth wall of realty we are still human, so us being able to understand the matter would kind of kill the point.

Yes, but in that sense they are true parasites.
Life is the struggle to impose order - from simply breathing and surviving through to building civilisations and communities.
Khorne is the aspect of rage, Tzeentch - deception, Slaanesh - selfishness, Nurgle - decay.
All of these are the enemies of civilisation.
From putting off that DIY task, to wanting to punch your boss, treating yourself as opposed to putting money in a charity box, or lying that it was broken when you got it to get a refund... These are all behaviours that go against the Kantian definition of moral.

Might be easier if you think of Chaos not having any aim other than defeating order in their own way. They create the struggle of life. So their power might wax and wane, but as long as there are conscious beings in existence, they'll be there...

It seems it would make more sense if they corrupted everything and killed the things they couldn't thus giving them eternal power over the sentient races and then they could focus on fighting each other

At least on the evidence of the Mortal Realms so far, in that scenario Khorne wins, by and large.
Chaos need good to work against, in the same way that a parasite will die without a host, even though by its' very nature it is relying on the host to be too strong for it to kill while it tries to kill it...

Yeah chaos is pretty much a parasite feeding of the emotions of the races
