I have three armies so far, as listed below.

Here are my current armies, in chronological order of acquisition:

1. The Tau. My first. I was interested to know they're the closest thing to good guys in the fluff, and their firepower and range sweetened the deal.
2. The Imperial Guard. I was interested in them due to the great number of tanks and infantry models, giving me plenty of potential maneuverability. The idea of having an army of normal dudes face off against the worst that the universe has to offer is also extremely appealing to me.
3. The Necrons. I thought they were evil until I got into their fluff, and realized their tragic story was beautiful in a weird way. I appreciated their staying power and the fact that they're space Egyptian terminators.

I am considering starting a new army, and the only restriction is no purely evil forces. So no Chaos in any way. What armies do you recommend based on the details mentioned above?

Well, I'd recommend GK. Unit selection is a bit limited but they have great units and models, like Draigo, NDK's, Purifiers, and whatnot. It would be fluffy to ally them with AM or Inquisition.

I second Grey Knights, they have a small model count so will contrast your other armies (particularly IG) nicely, are cheap to start into (minimum cost being £20.50 for a Strike Squad and ~£10 for a Brotherhood Champion, the best starting being Terminators+Librarian which comes to £46 together). The three armies you have there are very shooty, with little to no psykers. Grey Knights are choppy enough, although they still have good shooting with Psycannons and Stormbolters as standard, so bridge the gap nicely between your shooty and the choppier armies out there like Orks. They also allow you to get into the Psychic phase very easily.

Failing that, you might want to go full choppy and get Orks or Nids, and I'd personally recommend Nids. Reason being is that Orks have recieved their 7th Ed Codex already, and they've had their "Decurion" style released with the Ghaz supplement, meaning you have 2 books to be on the same cycle as others an are still weaker, whereas Nids will be due an upgrade sometime in the future, possibly Q3 or 4 this year even, plus Nids get updated every edition so you can be certain that you'll be on the same cycle at some point.

Go and try a unusual army, harlequins legion of the damned, genestealers or a FW army might be fun.

A note on the evil part: Chaos is not evil at all. Sure they are portraited as the bad guys. But the chaos gods aren't evil. The IoM as a whole is a evil warlike and degenerated society and Chaos just reflects what is. Most of it is pretty gakky due to the failed IoM and the fallen edar empire, but they also reflect good and positive things.

Just look at this discussion on reddit.

I agree with GK. Or got with Space Wolves. Just like GK, you can do relatively low model count armies which are really cool.

I also agree with oldzoggy: an obscure faction can be awesome to collect and play. Along the same vein, you could try is an obscure sub-faction. For example, go with a really, really non-Codex-Compliant Chapter, or some really obscure Chaos Warband.

You have 3 shooty armies, maybe try an assault based army? Chaos is mainly assault focused but there are others. Blood Angels and Orks can do assault well. Dark Eldar could be cool but you said no morally evil. Grey Knights do well in assault but I wouldn't classify them as an assault based army though. They are cheap if money is a concern.

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.

Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

And he will hold the line.

The one you like the best fluff wise. They are all marines except the admech. As for others suggesting GKs. GK suck arse. I tabled one this weekend at a 1850 itc tournament with my crusty chaos space marines (single FOC by the way) and I had not played in 18-20 months. If CSM codex (not KDK/BL/CS) can table GKs = GKs not good.

You have three shooty armies. I would say spice it up and go with Orks. They are fun to play with and against and nobody will bitch at you for playing them. They have a very different style to what you have and are fun to model.

If you want to avoid evil factions, your only choice is Orks. They are the most honest, even-handed and fair race you will ever find. They treat everyone the same, from Nidz to Eldar, and you always know where they stand.

Orks are the good guys.

It may be fun to have the second half of the 'War in Heaven' cast and play Eldar, they have incredibly fast movement and yet very fragile so they should be the antithesis of your Necrons and IG armour columns. Eldar have blistering firepower and can be toned down if you wish, this also leads you down to a number of playstyle that do not have to end in scatbikes and wraithknights (but you can if thats the route you want to take with them), they can be psychic power houses, armour columns, tragic Wraith hosts or Aspect heavy. You have a number of supplements and leads you towards Corsairs and Halrequins if thats a route that interests you.

Once you get into the fourth or fifth army territory I think you should consider starting a new game all together. Because you're not starting a 40k army because you like it. You're starting it to chase the buzz. To get that excitement of the new again. It won't happen. Stick with the armies you already have because you were genuinely interested in them to begin with. Come back to them as they are updated. Look to new games for your fix.
