Hi folks. Just curious what solutions you'd suggest in terms of equipment/vehicles for effectively dealing with riptide battle suits. I run Ultramarines and one of my buddies regularly runs one along with many crisis suits and a broadside.

Get chapter master smashbane, along with his command squad
As well as Liberarian conclave and some proper bodyguard.
Sometimes assault units and Land Raider combo may help, but it is somehow more depend on luck.
If you have lots of droppod, DS threat overload may be Ok against them. Their interceptor can only shoot at that many units, and without marker light help, you can get cover save.

gravs, though they wont be wounding the other suits until the drones are thinned out (majority armor save is the only way you can justify wounding against multiple armors, since multiple toughness works the same way and thats normal wounding). Riptides never have their drones because theyre 25pts each and give them a MAJOR leadership threat and dont do jack for those points, so usually theres no "Majority armor 4+" in their units.

Also like neophyte said. Interceptor is a major threat with Tau but its almost always better to spam targets for us to intercept and lose a few units before they can act, than only bring a couple units and have them get focused fired off the board. Unless hes running the Drone Net formation there are 0 markerlight supports in interceptor so hes BS3 and no ignores cover. Thats a major weakness. Ive wiffed so many shots in interceptor because i rolled 3s....making me really wish i had at least 1 ML lol.

Against any tau list without a Stormsurge, land raiders cause considerable problems. Bringing enough grav in pods to overwhelm the interceptor fire he has as mentioned is also a solid option. Just spread out to minimise casualties and put the Grav guys at the back (but still within range.

What Tau lists aren't bringing at least a couple of disposable twin fusion crisis suits, which can easily reduce Land Raiders to a puddle of molten metal?

The Laws of Thermodynamics:
1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.

I played one game against Tau who had a Riptide. I was using SKyhammer so he intercepted my dev squads and not my assault marines which managed to land close by to get that 7 inch re-rollable charge and lock it in combat. They held it there for its round of shooting. I dont know how much longer they would have held it there because the Tau player conceded that turn (understandbly so) to Skyhammer cheese and me making 20 out of 21 2 up saves on grav cents.

I would say assault it works wonders, but I cant think of another way to get in close early to stop its shooting.

Grav weapons.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Ultra Marines can have so much grav, Bikes with Grav = Relentless so you can fire 3 shots at all distance.
