So my father just joined the bandwagon and started playing Necrons. After a long ass process, he finally got them built and we had our first match.

Forces used:
Necrons:
12 Warriors
3 Canoptek Scarabs
1 Overlord
1 (the spider tank thingy whose name eludes me)

Tau:
1 Strike Team
(9 Shas'la, 1 Shas'ui with markerlight, 1 Shield Drone, 1 Markerlight drone, the new missile turret thing)
1 Cadre Fireblade
1 Piranha with Fusion Blaster

So after my piranha got shot to gak by his tank with a twin linked heavy gauss cannon, it was up to my strike team to use markerlight abilities to use seeker missiles (which i assume is allowable) to take down the tank, which was a lot harder than I expected with that 13 13 13 shielding rule, anyway, shield drone did the work stopping the gauss shots for just long enough to remove the tank. After that i had stupidly taken carbines to deal with the warriors and scarabs, though after minor losses, they were taken care of. This just left my fireblade and his squad to take apart the overlord, which tesla'ed apart all remaining firewarriors, and after some heroic leadership, cadre put the last shot into the overlord, leaving him the only model on the field.

For those that dont know, this was my first game against NON NURGLE CHAOS, which i have a 0 win 20 loss record with...

But hey...finally won my first match!

If the overlord was left, why didn't the warriors and scarabs come back?

He had moved the scarabs up out of the way. As for the warriors....meh?

I'm confused. He should have had the formation bonus that allows the warriors and scarabs to regenerate at full strength after the unit gets totally destroyed. The only limit is that they must be placed within 3" of the overlord, so if the overlord dies, they can't come back. You said the overlord was the only model on the table at the end. Unless the models all got wiped off the table that turn, the warriors and scarabs should have been put back on the table, I believe at the beginning of the Necron player's next turn (haven't gotten the starter set yet, so I'm not 100% positive).

Where were the seeker missiles coming from?

As the others said, the scarabs and warriors should have come back when destroyed.

You're also quite heavily outpointed IIRC an addition to being at a huge disadvantage in that his Stalker can basically destroy your entire army without fear once the piranha is dead, and with that much gauss, it's pretty much a sure thing.
