I am a huge fan of the original metal CSM daemon Prince, and while I can upgrade it with a pair of Dragon Wings from the old WHFB line, I don't like how they look on the prince, especially the old "Skull horns" invoke the same feeling as the CSM armor, making it feel more like this prince use to be a CSM.

However this means that, running the model as-is, I can't have the Wings upgrade. I could do a lore limbo of some kind to give him some sort of magical flight but I always found those conversions to be 1.) really complicated and 2.) tends to not look as good. So anyone have any tips on running a Daemon Prince wingless? This obviously means running him as a count-as Be'Lakor is out of the question too.

If it's totally unfeasable (as princes are usually melee beatsticks and not having speed is counter-intuitive to that) then my princes can remain a display piece. Still a fun exercise though.

Sorry man, princes aren't the best thing even when tricked out unless they roll some specific powers as 4 wounds of 3+/5++ is super fragile for the points cost involved and combine that with moving only 6" a turn means you're going to get shot to hell before you get anywhere and as final salt in the wound, you're probably not even going to soak much fire while you're at it.

Run it as a greater unclean one.

Their stats are much better than princes, and their prices are rather reasonable.

I kinda got the feeling :/

I could run them as KoS's instead. Mainly because GUOs are even slower and I...already have three GUOs already >.> (and a fourth pending if I can spare enough for a Glottkin).

Wings are only for display purposes as says the brb, so you could play it as a jump or flying MC.

If you want to run a KoS make sure you take rewards and max psychic powers for invis or he will die, every match I have my keeper gets focused and WITH invis he loses aound 3 wounds minimum so I would hate to think what it would be like if I didnt have it.

Soulstealer is also great for points value so take it if you can.

Im currently attempting to find a viable way of taking the keeper without invis "for tournament reasons" and its hard

I believe they have a name for foot princes.

'Target Practice'.

Only thing I can think of is Chaos Daemons and Tzeentch Prince with Impossible Robe. With the right power/Warlord trait you could get a 2++ Walking Prince. Without Wings and Armor you save some points, but it's still slow. You could deepstrike it into the enemies lines, but that's still risky.

What's does your army list usually look like? Is it CSM or Daemons?

I have a lot of CSM but it's all 4th/5th edition vintage (so no heldrakes, maulerfiends and so on). The DPs are part of my Iron Warriors, who are basically a gunline army with lots of heavy weapons and obliterators.

Tbh when facing demons my main first target are the MC's. If you're not flying they're going to get a ton of shots against them!

Last time I played them I wiped out a KoS and all his heralds and wounded the hell out of his prince (who was foot slogging due to point limitations). Okay I didn't hit much else but turn one most of his major damage dealing or buff units were out.

Flying MC's generally are the way to go atm in my humble opinion.

OP: I feel your pain. I too have that model and its one of my best painted, i like the weight of it.

I'm loathe not to use it.

In friendly games (which they should all be!?) i'll pay the points for wings then ask if its okay to treat him as a beast instead- landlocked but with speed.

overkill is underated

Could you model a couple of turbines on the back to act as a more mechanical flight feel? I've seen a couple of DPs like that. Doesn't look too bad.
