So my friend has recently inspired me to start a new army because he has taken all his imperial guard and turned them undead, and sorta renegade if you know what I mean. I've decided that I want to start a new army, that involves quite a lot of theming and converting.
However, I'm struggling to think of something that I can theme an army in 40k off of - does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance

What armies would you want to play? Just to narrow it down a bit

Well...I already play CSM, and I'm looking to play a competitive army. The idea is that I can build a completely awesome looking army that I can take to tournaments and then give myself a chance of winning. So really I'm looking at AdMech, Eldar, possibly Daemons, Tau, and Necrons. However, if you can think of an idea that involves another army, I'm pretty confident that I could work it to be semi competitive
EDIT: Oh and no anime themes please

I've seen an awesome star wars themed space marine army. Stormtroopers for marines. Vader as a captain etc

Well you can always make it own chapter for sm . Also you could do some undead necrons like real skeletons and stuf like that , from all of those I gues eldar is a hardest to convert in to something . Just chose an army first and than think what you can do with it.

Endless Waltz themed riptide wing? (sorry)
now that that is out of the way,
Meganob themed FSE? Crisis suits with Ork heads? Lots of burst cannons, no markerlights?

HALO themed Blood Angels?

Eldar, foes of Batman?

If you regularly play at GW events, the last 2 maybe not, as taking themes straight from another IP is a no no.
Put it this way. I have a golden COC army. saying I wanted a golden army is fine. Saying that I modeled my army after the Golden Army from Hellboy 2 is not.

For Eldar, if you want something really tough, why not take a Craftworld force and model them as remnants of the Eldar Empire?

Would be a hell of a job and you'd have to wing it a bit, but it would be entertaining. Wraith constructs are your friend there, to fill in as some of the Empires' automatons.

Paint an eldar army as if it were a contemporary military force. Camo, dull colours, etc etc. Ideally model its composition after one, too. It's eldar so it should still be perfectly playable.

Or you could figure out a historical civilisation, a style of clothes or music, an environment or a genre of film you like and then go with that. Western-themed tau? They don't all need horses and hats, you just need to give them a rough-looking desert equipment kind of style with ponchos and such.

Could have a mercenary/pirate theme, could even mix races under one captain. After that, any of the competitive armies can be selected.

For Eldar you could do Corsairs. They can take things from Harlequins, Dark Eldar, and Eldar.

That could play into Robin's idea of the Remnants of the Eldar Empire, that would include what you're looking for

<Dynasty> ~10500pts
War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts
Admech (TBN) ~3500pts +30k Bots and Ulator

Thanks for all your suggestions guys, I think I'm going to go with the eldar corsairs, themeing them after the fall of the eldar. However, my brother is a big fan of star wars so I might do him a small detachment of star wars marines.
Cheers for your help - ill be sure to post some pictures when I get round to starting it, gotta finish everything I have unpainted first so this is a good incentive.
