Hi everyone, I have a problem I'm not sure whether to collect Orks or Eldar! I love the lore for both of them, I love the look of both of them and I love both of their playstyles - despite them being very different - so, the only thing I need to know are which race is a more competitive faction? If you could answer this, then thank you so much

P.S. When I say competitive, I don't mean tournament level, I mean friendly matches with my mates xD

Eldar are easily in the running for (or simply are) the most competitive codex out there, where orks are in the running for weakest codex.

If you're looking for friendly games, be careful what you take with eldar simply because there is a lot of hate towards them right now (mainly scatbikes and WK). Orks OTOH will almost never have someone reluctant to play them, partially because they don't have anything as scary as eldar, but equally because it's generally agreed upon that orks are a really fun and sometimes silly army to play.

I can't tell you specifically which you'd prefer, only that eldar are more competitive and that orks are generally more likable. Although you can run fun eldar lists too, despite what some people say.

If you want to win go eldar.

If you want to have friends go orks.

Another important question is how competitive is your meta? If it's filled with top tier armies and play to win lists then Orks would be a bad idea as you would likely get stomped resulting in no fun for anyone.

As far as Eldar goes, all I can say is that they are extremely strong, so you probably won't ever struggle in a game. That lack of struggle is probably the main reason why I'd say "Collect Orks!". Bringing Eldar seems to be like bringing a Veryon Sport to a 5-mile drag race with a few Ferraris and a couple of Mazdas. It'll win hands down in the end, but it may not be a fun race because you were likely to win anyway.

I have a couple of friends and know a number of people who play Orks at my FLGS's and, though the codex is viewed as one of the worst codeces out there, you can still form a competitive list. It just may take some time to figure out how to do that. Plus the Ork lore is infinitely more fun and hilarious than the Eldar lore haha

Thanks IllumiNini, Tibs Ironblood, Bobthehero and kingbobbito for the advice, I recon I'll go Orks, because I'd rather have a tough victory over an easy one (which is the reason for an army change in the first place), plus, you know there's nothing more satisfying than crushing a few guardsmen under the wait of your green rippling muscles xD

How is this even a question, and how the hell can orks ever be the answer to it ...

because I'd rather have a tough victory over an easy one

This is the polar opposite of the original question. I just don't get it.

Orks always win, never lose. Every ork knows dat . Also Orks aren't a bunch of sparkly gitz like dem posh Eldar so that's already a win in the Ork's book.

Just like in MMORPG's and if history of 40k is any indication...

Anything 'awesome' right now will soon have its nerf.

How 'bad' the nerf is always depends on if the person complaining owned the army.

It's not the polar opposite of the original question. The original question was two-part: What should DarkShader1999 play? And which one is more competitive?

Both questions were answered - Eldar are more competitive, but DarkShader1999 should play Orks. It's that simple. The quote you made of what they said only indicates they want a challenging rather than a walk-over game.

Krieg! What a hole...

The thing with Eldar is that you'll have a bigger leeway with what units you pick if one of your friends shows up with something stonger than IG, you wont be stuck in the dirt. You don't *have* to bring overwhelmingly powerful lists just because Edlar, but you can if you're facing someone that's giving you trouble

Its also a good thing if you're into painting and modelling, as you can have many lists of varying strenght depending on what you're facing, and you get to paint and build more models. You'll spend more money, but hey, its 40k...

This you can build a striking scorpions, howling banshees, avatar, wraith lord close combat eldar army. Just take a look at the eldar model range and pick those units you never see on the table and have fun playing those outside power detachments and formations. It will be fun and challenging to play and it will be easy to scale up the power lv by just adding some powerfull units when you play vs a strong list.
Orks on the other hand are just fethed by their new codex. It is really weak and you simply can't build a decent competitive list even most casual games will be unpleasantly hard. Their only shot at competitive play is gambling against the meta and pray to gork and or mork that their opponents went all in on the wrong kind of weapon. Any decent all comers semi-competitive list of the more powerful armies will just crush orks to the point that it isn't even funny.

I dont think you could have asked a simpler OR more trolley question. Eldar.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!
