Hey all,

Contemplating doing up a small force for 3rd/4th edition 40k and was wondering if people would be cool if I retro-fitted new 32mm packed marines onto the original 25mm bases they used to have. Leaning towards keeping them on 32's but the retro 'feel' feels better with 25's.

On that note, I've no clue whether to go for a stock standard SM chapter (Ultras in this case unless another suggestion comes up )

Feedback would be appreciated

32mm means that the feet don't overhang, that and they feel like bulkier, but 25mm allows for more marines in a smaller space if that's your thing.

Are you going to be playing 3/4 edition? Seems fitting to be on the smaller bases in that case. But personally I really like how marines look on the bigger bases.

I'm not about modelling for advantage via footprint size of a unit, it's more of a keeping-with-the-retro and using the 25mm, which was stock standard for marines save from 2013-now, if that clarifies?

What I want to do is keep to the 'feel' of 3rd and 4th editions of 40k, as 7th to me feels quite overdone as a ruleset and I'm not keen on the arms race/big monster mash it is becoming. Marines on 32's look ace compared to 25's but for the older-editions, not sure what would fly/be appropriate for the Emperor's Finest (except for that one time back in M31)

Well, I like the look of Marines on 32mm bases.
