I was thinking: I never really liked how models are always at the top of the bunker due to the way it's put together, and I'd much like them to be inside the building. So is it possible to magnetize the back of the bunker so it can be removed and models can be placed within?

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Certainly. How easy it would be depends on which bunker you are talking about...

Most people actually use the roof rather than the back wall as the removable section though.

But as I said, is it actually possible?

Why wouldn't it be possible?

I didn't bother with magnets, I just didn't glue every piece together so I can remove or add levels to my Bastions. I did the same with the Fortress of Redemption I made for a friend.

Magnets would be nice though, my group has a few notorious table bumpers ha.

It's super-doable.

You can make it removable with pegs or magnets or just by sitting in place.

Do you have a particular bunker kit in mind, or a photo of the one you've made?

I guess the downside to magnets could be that if they are reasonably strong and the bunker is reasonable light (foam or plastic) then people might accidentally shift the whole bunker when trying to remove the access panels which would knock over all the miniatures inside.

I've seen a lot of people do bunkers and buildings with removable roofs, I haven't myself, but I wonder if rather than magnets some sort of positive locking would be better, like small pins/pegs or a step (so gravity is holding it on and it can be lifted up easily, but the roof or building layers can't be slid sideways relative to each other).

Depending how well it's designed or made you can get away with using good ol' friction.

If the bunker is made from a weaker material such as a high density foam, foamboard / foamcore, I'd avoid using strong magnets (the ones containing neodymium) simply because they can be stronger than the material you use, therefore can cause damage.
