Is there a general consensus as to which point comp system is the best?

Well I think you can go with SDK or Pool system, in my opinion. But, i recommend you to play first with the basic rules and try, if you have 3 times less models than your opponent, to do the sudden death obejctives. That's the way where I think age of sigmar is balanced. If you don't like, play scenarios then, and if you still don't like, then try pool or SDK

Try to play scenario based games from some of the books too. doesnt seem to need as much point balancing that way. Adds a lot to the game too when every games objectives are totally different.

As for what's best overall, I'm not sure. I personally enjoy Project Points Cost (see my Sig) as it's the most balanced I've seen, certainly more so than SDK. But 'best' consists of more than just that and is different between individuals and groups, enough so that it will be hard to call any comp the best.

Your mileage will vary. SDK / Clash is probably the most played with largely because the tournament crowd uses it so it has become a kind of defacto standard.

So far we've been keeping it simple and just playing wounds. I really want to keep it to something simple like that but just add a little something to make the choice of taking elite troops over basic troops a little harder.

SDK would fit your needs nicely, I think.

Azyr Comp is an option, just skip the 'Event Rules and Clarifications' and the 'Optional Rules'.

Honestly, I think AoS it's not thinking to play with "points" systems. It's more play with scenarios and objectives, even in tournaments. If you play with SDK or pool its just because you want only kill each other and no more.

Thats really not true. I only play with scenarios but I play with points as well so that we know roughly how balanced the two sides are.

Per one of the main AOS fb pages, SDK is now officially dead.

"Sadly, SDK will no longer be updated. Due to the synergy based rule design of many new units, SDK is no longer a valid method to calculate fair point values. We want to thank everyone for the help and the fun we had building SDK. For everyone willing to keep the system alive, we made the RAW data files downloadable and copy-able."

Sadly there is just no way to play age of sigmar fairly, there is too many point systems out there to find a game behond 1 or two friends. Even then if one loses more then he thinks he should there are problems.

With the release of age of sigmar finding a game is impossible. You either talk about what point system you want to try and use and argue it out. Or go wounds and then there new poster robots are the best. Or you play guess the fairness, with you enemy until no one is having fun. Or feel free to try the free game out and buy the two 100$ books for two scenarios which add alot lol.

While I'm sorry that has been your experience, it is hardly universal. Suffice it to say there are many who would assert differently.

1-Plenty of ways to play the game "fairly".Step one..dont be a dick, step two match up warscrolls,,monsters with monsters, hero`s with hero`s..etc..OR grab one of the fine player comps like Azyr or PPC.

2-Easy to find games, finding the time for them,,,well thats another story..Im in an area were the game is not popular at all,,theres even some local hostility toward it,but there are a few of us that play and we arrange games at least once a month and most of the time more often.I recommend getting out, getting on FB,heading to your local stores and chatting with others.Theres players out there it just takes some effort to find them.OR you can introduce it to new players..volunteer to run a demo at a shop once a month or something

A few friends and myself have been using the SDK system for points. Through the multitude of games we've played, all minus one or two have been extremely close wins/losses. I think the system is ery nicely refined.

Give the 2v1 scenario (The Tables Turned) from the Seraphon book a try.
Oh my god, the body count in turn 1...

My suggestion would be to try *any* of the points systems, if that's what you want to try.
As Ogre has not-so-eloquently pointed out, AoS isn't intended to be a finely balanced game.
Find a starting point, and work from there.
If you throw in scenarios and time of War rules, even the most finely balanced points system will throw out completely anomalous results.
Play games, learn what works and what doesn't.

For me the most important thing is the 'look' of the army. Put the tallest/biggest thing in your army in the centre of the table, then in descending order of size put models next to it, alternating sides. If the total line isn't at least 4-5 times the height of the tallest mini and there's no sudden drops, then I'm okay with it.
It's not hard and fast or even vaguely related to rules but it's a mental guide line I use for myself to make an army 'look' right.

In my opinion the best points system (and the one that adresses summoning in the best way) is the PPC system.

Age of Sigmar can be played without a comp if two opponents sit down and discuss before the battle on the battle level, but personally I do not wish to have to have a conference each time I have a game.

The various point systems help a lot players to have pick up games and also provide a format that makes tournaments possible.

'Murica! (again)

Clash comp. all around, 100%. Our group will review SCGT comp for the summer options. It's hefty, haven't tackled it all the way through yet. Haven't tried Azyr yet.
