After a close run thing Choas took week 3s poll for most iconic enemy of the IoM.
This week its all about the poster boys (Loyalists only and no GKs Im afraid.)
Note: I have not included every possible chapter here due to time - feel free to chime in.

While I'm not a big fan of them myself it's hard to argue that the Ultrasmurfs aren't the most iconic sm chapter imo.

Have to say the Ultramarines to be honest. I mean, they're on the cover of the freaking codex for the default space marines. I think I would put the Blood Angels as a close second though, as they, at least for me, always come to mind immediately after the Ultramarines do

Hard to argue the boys in blue. Only Blood Angels stand out as somewhat iconic next to them.

It obviously is Smurfs, but I still voted for DA, because feth Smurfs.

And before any Ultrapansy fanboy starts thinking that I'm just jelly because my favourite chapter (legion!) isn't the poster boy of the whole game, have a look at this:

"You may have noted a disturbing trend in Ultramarines special characters. Marneus Calgar is the BEST CHAPTER MASTER EVAR, Varro Tigurius is the BEST LIBRARIAN EVAR, Torias Telion is the BEST SCOUT SERGEANT EVAR, Antaro Chronus is the BEST TANK PILOT EVAR, and Cato Sicarius is the BEST SECOND COMPANY CAPTAIN EVAR (okay, maybe not so much on that one). In other words, they're all a bunch of fething Mary Sues. They have essentially no character traits besides being THE BEST EVAR. There's nothing setting them apart from other Space Marines besides the fact they're just better. They're so absolutely perfect that even Fulgrim himself weeps bitter tears that he can never be as perfect as the Ultramarines special characters."

This will be a cake walk for the Uktra marines, poster boys of GW since the mid nineties. I would say, the Blood Angels and maybe Crimson Fists would be a close second and third fir me, given their prime positions on the cover of second edition and rogue trader respectively.

Get over yourself.
Calgar: Nerfed since sixth, overcosted by about 50 points, and a better CM can be built for 260.
Sicarius: Sucks.
Tigurius: Pretty decent, actually, but considering he is the only Vanilla named Librarian. I'll let it slide.
Chronus: Cannot drive a Sicaran anymore.
Cassius: Infernus SUUUUUUCKS.
Telion: Waste of points.

literally the only special character worth a damn is Tigurius past sixth. Chronus was the gak back in the day and if he could still drive Sicarans he still would be.

He was talking about their fluff, not game rules. And he's right. The codex descriptions of these guys gives them zero personality and only talks about how great they are.

I, Cato Sicarius, can not believe that you would suggest that the greatest Space Marine ever to live (which happens to be I, Cato Sicarius, by the way) is anything but a glorious example of everything a spectacular space marine captain should aspire to be! I, Cato Sicarius will not stand for such insults to the greatest captain of the greatest company, which, in case you didn't know, is the Ultramarines Second Company led by I, Cato Sicarius!

It's probably the Ultramarines, yes. I would like to vote for Crimson and/or Imperial Fists but that would be personal preferences more than an honest evaluation.

I'd be fine with Ultramarines being posterboys if that was their actual position in the Imperium, that of the very image of the devoted modern chapter. Not necessarily the most skilled at anything, just the ones with stable geneseed and good relations with all the other imperial factions.

blood angels srape past ultamarines due to a lot of people getting into 40k because of Dawn of War II and doing Blood angels because they are pretty close to the Blood Ravens colors etc.

I hate them, but GW has made the UM the "iconic" marines.

I like to think that Dawn of War 1 did more recruiting. Don't get me wrong, I like company of heroes: space monk edition, but DoW1 was just leagues better

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Ultramarines are by far the most iconic of all Space Marine chapters. If nothing else, all the box art for the SM kits has Ultramarines on it, sometimes with other chapters on the back of the boxes.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I'd have to say that the Space Wolves are the most iconic and representative of the loyalist chapters.

Barely-human monsters protected more by plot armour than actual talent.

Oh, yes, space wolves have plot armor in comparison to Ultramarines, right? Honestly, I loath the wolves, and I can't see this "plot armor" craze. Did I miss something? last I checked they are one of the few armies who have a major lost in their supplement book.

Definitely gotta give it to the Ultramarines!

But there's a few close seconds. I find the Black Templars are very frequently on display in the pics, but rarely as peoples armies, and nicely embody the "holy warrior" aspect of Space Marines.

This. Videogames have a huge player base compared to 40k fans. Then I would say Blood Angels next, and for 40k fans I would say Blood Angels are the second most iconic. However we have more extensive knowledge than your average gamer playing a 40k video game has.
