I recently uploaded a photo montage of a completed painting at 1:12th scale.

However, I noticed the next day (today) that the picture had been deleted from my gallery.

I appreciate that Dakka's gallery is for hosting "wargaming" related pictures and that you are quite lenient in what is allowed, judging on what I have previously been allowed to keep in my gallery. e.g.
Spoiler:

etc...

I'm posting here for a couple of reasons:
1) I received no notification / warning / message that a picture I had uploaded had been deleted. The only way I found out that it had occurred was that I scrolled over the original post (to show someone the photos) and found the link broken. I had to assume that a mod had deleted the picture.
Post in my blog can be found here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/1170/549077.page#8555066

Some kind of message to alert me to the issue would have been appreciated.

2) Also of note and something that can be seen in that link above is that a previous painting, at the same scale, and only set on a scale easel has been allowed to stay in the Dakka gallery, while this one (with a wire for hanging) was deleted.

Allowed:

disallowed: (pictures hosted on FB; large)
Spoiler:

There are a few points that can be made to keep these in the Dakka gallery:
To relate to Wargaming these need to exhibit features such as...
Game play - none, that's fair enough,

Painting - While not painting a 3D model, painting on a 2D surface is still relevant to models as that is how you add tank- / tail-art etc. It also involves skills such as blending.

Modelling - While this is not a complex (or even simple) scale model when compared to something with wheels, wings, or arms and legs, this was produced using modelling skills to shape some plastic sprue and plasticard for the original, and then moulding and casting to produce the finished piece, then adding the wire to hang the picture. These are all relevant steps for modelling.

I would just like some clarity on these points.
Thanks.

Just wanted to pop in to say I love the miniature painting and has given me the idea to make my Chaos Lord a collector of fine art. He's going to have the most well decorated command tent in the galaxy.

Help me, Rhonda. HA!

Hi Dr H, that was me who deleted it.

As stated it was deleted because I didn't see any wargame content, it was a gorgeous piece and I remember checking it and thinking carefully before deciding.

Unfortunately the gallery as currently set up does not send notifications when images are deleted. I agree it is a good idea and good manners, however Lego would have to do the scut work to make it happen and I have no idea how hard or easy it would be.

KK, wargaming related seems to be a broad term in the gallery though. Looking at what's allowed in there the requirements appear to be "its a model", or are you going to pull all the miniatures which aren't directly wargaming related as well? Alternatively, on a similar note, its could functionally be used as terrain - or because the intent wasn't for it be used as such you're not allowing it to count as that? In either case, based on the content in the gallery, this seems to be more about making a point.

KK, the moderator who does the deletion could send a PM to the affected Dakka-ite. As a stop-gap measure. A simple courtesy notice.

The painting is a perfect bit of terrain detail for many a wargame, except the 40k game, since that game really only requires grim, gray, gothic ruins. I could see the painting used in Infinity for example, as a bit of terrain detail, or even as an objective marker...

Thanks Gordon, always nice to hear that I've inspired someone.

Thanks for the backup Wyrmalla and Red'.

Thanks for the reply KK.
I was just a little confused that that picture was removed, but the one on the easel was not, never mind the earrings or other things I have in my gallery. I know it's a tricky situation and a line has to be drawn somewhere.

As to the notification, do I need to send Lego' a message, or does he know? (are you out there Lego'?)

Mostly, on my phone.

I have to agree with Dr H here. It seems a bit arbitrary, tbh; I have things in my Misc Gallery such as various geeky cakes my wife has made without them disappearing (well, the cakes themselves did, but still). @KK how practical is it for MODs to PM folk in that situation? How many pics do you delete a day, roughly?

I review something like 150~200 pics a day, maybe more.

Out of that I might turn voting off for 10~20 if there's no actual work to rate (ie a pile of bits or a picture of a real-life object). I might delete 2 or 3, usually for quality issues (tilted sideways is the most common). After that, unrelated to wargaming is the most common, usually pictures of people or pets with no wargaming context.

Sometimes I do PMs but that depends how much time I have.

And yes, it's something of an art and somewhat arbitrary, esp since I am not the only one who approves.

Sometimes I might see a picture of rusty metal and decide that's 'obviously' there as a guide for how to paint weathering and leave it. Other times I might see a cat and say obviously this has nothing to do with wargames and delete it (though one might argue it could be there as a guide for painting fur).

I was really borderline on the painting in question since it was not a diorama, or a model or a sci-fi/fantasy/military subject. It looked like someone's unrelated hobby.

If you want to repost it go ahead I'll approve it, I make no claims to papal infalibility. My big rule is images have to be acceptable (not blurry, oriented the right way) and at least tangentally on topic.

Thanks again, KK. I think I have a handle on where the line (as blurry as it may be) is, and will make sure to include something wargaming in such photos.

I'll repost it soon then.
