Hi, I'm asking this question referring to the Dark Angels codex, but I think it applies to any SM codex.

Can a Chaplain or Interrogator-Chaplain replace his crozius arcanum with another weapon?

Thanks

Of course. Why wouldn't he be able to?

Not in C:SM. I doubt you can in C: DA. It's their iconic weapon.

Because it's not allowed.

Just checked the DA codex, you can't replace it there either. Just add additional weapons.

In the Melee weapons equipment list it says 'A model can replace his melee weapon etc.' so, since a crozius arcanum is a melee weapon, he can replace it. The doubt comes when the Interrogator-Chaplain takes the terminator armour, because when he takes the TA, he cannot take anymore gear from the melee weapons list, so he cannot replace anymore the 'melee weapon'. How do you solve it? Thanks.

But not every model has access to the melee weapon list.

* May take items from the Ranged Weapons, Special Issue Wargear and/or
Chapter Relics lists.

*A Chaplain in Terminator armour may only take items from the Special Issue
Wargear and/or Chapter Relics lists.

That's all the lists a Chaplain can have access to, Melee Weapons isn't one of them.

HOWEVER

You are able to swap "a weapon" for a Relic.

You are not reading from the DA codex.

Vanilla Codex: Space Marine. I doubt the DA codex is much different.

*edit*

It actually is - apologies.

May take items from the Melee Weapons, Ranged Weapons, Special Issue Wargear and/or Relics of Caliban lists.

An Interrogator-Chaplain in Terminator armour may take items from the Terminator Weapons, Special Issue Wargear and/or Relics of Caliban lists.

So since the word "only" is missing from the Terminator options in the DA Codex you're free to access the Melee Weapon list even when wearing Terminator Armour - and clearly you're able to do so while wearing lesser armour. The Crozius is listed as a Melee Weapon, so it can be replaced.

A DA chaplain/interrogator chaplain can take items from Melee, ranged and special issue wargear lists. The Melee list says they can replace boltgun/bolt pistol and/or Crozius with items from the list which includes power fists, lightning claws and thunder hammers. Hope this clarifies.

Edit. Nekoomi ninja'ed me

Great, thanks.

I'm having a second thought on this... If it is as you say, then why there is the need to specify again Special Issue Wargear and/or Relics of Caliban? They could just have said 'An Interrogator-Chaplain in Terminator armour may take items from the Terminator Weapons'. Take for example the Librarian entry (DA codex). The last line would be completely useless since it has already been said.

The SM codex uses 'only' on the Terminator , the DA doesn't -they probably forgot and intended to limit it to that list of lists. But raw you can use the melee list

Vanilla codex can swap the Crozius for another gun.

And yes DA can swap for another melee weapon.

In both cases you are basically giving up a free power maul to pay full price for whatever weapons you choose. Or you could look at it as throwing away 15 points.
