Boosting Black Templar Biker

Hey guys, I rarely post in Painting and Modelling, but I am here to ask for some advice/inspiration.
I loathe the Stormtalon model, its just a big bulky mess, so I was thinking of using the Dark Angel Nephilim jetfighter instead. Obviously, I would have to convert Lascannons onto it (iirc, its not an option for the DAs). Does anyone else have alternate options to use as a Stormtalon?
Secondly, the Whirlwind. Love the tank itself, but since its overpriced and only available via mail order, I don't see myself buying one. I was thinking of converting one from the Stalker/Hunter boxset (I love the stabilizers, and it makes sense for an artillery platform to have them). I'm just struggling to find the WW launcher pods (can only find the old-school cylinders). Any ideas?

There are some really cool conversions to the Stormtalon that debulk it and also give it some nice wings. I happen to like the bulky look, but it can be made much more streamlined and look sleeker. The Nephalim Jetfighter is almost twice the price! Google search "Stormtalon conversions". Some of them look really awesome.

I always thought the Stormtalon looked terrible and unfortunately most the conversions also look terrible I also don't particularly like the Nephalim, GW just can't figure out the angles to make cool looking Space Marine flyers. I started but never finished a Stormtalon conversion myself. I don't have an army that can actually use one, so I never followed through with it. I was planning on mounting the guns on the chin still, but in a far more compact form so they don't look so unwieldy and ugly, then also using under the wings or wing tips as hard points for other weapons. The square cavity in the nose that has the search light/sensors in it I was planning on making look like a an intake for the regular belly jets (so it still looks like it might be able to act like a gunship rather than the high speed fighter I made it look like). Automatically Appended Next Post: I don't THINK I've glued the wings on yet (haven't even looked at the project in years!), if you are interested in doing a similar conversion I could scan them for you to use as a template if you'd like. It was always my plan to scan the plasticard bits for templates so I could make a squadron of them as they took quite a while to get right the first time.

This is the best suggestion I have if you don't want you convert up anything from an existing kit.
It's the right size and can sport equivalent weapons.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's just difficult to imagine the Stormtalon as an air superiority fighter when its so damn bulky and squished.
I have seen a few conversions using plasticard and what-not, but I dont trust myself using the stuff. I may build up a prototype frame using my massed sprues and see if I feel confident enough to scratch build on top of it.
Edit: Oh, and how do the Orks, of all races, get sleek, awesome spitfires. This saddens me. Why must all Space Marine vehicles be so bulky damnnit!

Don't let a fear of plasticard get in your way, that Stormtalon conversion was literally the first thing I ever attempted with plasticard and I think it came out fine. There are a few gaps that are bigger than I'd like, but that's what milliput and tamiya putty are for. Also if you think the Stormtalon looks derpy as an air superiority aircraft, read the first line of the description of the Stormfang.... "For the Space Wolves, the Stormfang Gunship is the final word in aerial superiority." That's right, apparently the flying shipping crate crossed with a dog's head is the final word in aerial superiority

Well, to be fair, if one wishes to ship a dog via air these days, they do have to go in a crate!

There's a conversion somewhere that uses Drop Pod panels to make wings. I really like it and was thinking of doing it, but I can't find those panels separately anywhere. I've never seen a plasticard conversion. Time for Google!
