Hey guys and girls just thought id put a quick "fair" gameplay question out there. I collect a sylvaneth army with a couple wanderers units in there. With the release of grand alliance order i noticed Durthu is no longer a warscroll option. I prefer to play the most upto date rules and with Durthu gone ive realised i can no longer summon wyldwoods to the table which is pretty much the only bonus i get from my army being near them. I havent played much AoS and just wondered would it be considered bad game play if i brought wylwoods to set up at start as my scenery choices or does the scenery have to be pick at random?

Thsnks for any help in advance

There isn't actually a table for selecting Sylvaneth Wyldwoods or other terrain pieces at random. The random tables do indicate how many terrain pieces per table square, and whether the terrain is arcane, causes fear, etc.

So I would talk to your opponent. Maybe you each get to select 1 or more terrain pieces that come with a war scroll.

The way scenery warscrolls are meant to be played is a little bit blurry. Technically they are warscrolls, so you should be able to include them in your army and play them, but deployment involves placing "units", and no scenery warscroll is defined as "a unit" in the description.Anyhow, the best and only clearly explained way to set up Wyldwood is with the Guardians of the Deepwood formation. Disclaimer, it says 2 Wyldwoods in the list, but when you refer to the Wyldwood warscroll, it says a Wyldwood consists of 2 pieces... So I don't know if the formations needs 2 or 4.

Also Durthu is still there under the old Wood Elves section in the app.

Haechi pretty much said it. I would talk with your opponent to agree on how many would be fair to bring, or continue using Durthu's warscrolls from the app. Alternatively, the PPC comp (see my signature) allows you to bring terrain warscrolls as part of your army.

Speaking as a hypothetical opponent, I'd be all for you setting up wyldwoods on the table. Could potentially do some randomization with where they go. It would go with the theme of your army and make for a fun narrative in my view.

Thanks for all the comments people I really appreciate it!
I would normally just take Durthu but my gaming group are quite strict and because some of the rules differed in the previous grand alliance chaos and death books to the app my gaming group play where if the warscroll is not in the relevant grand alliance book then you cant play the warscroll and they follow SCGT pool system at the min

Dude the app is more relevant than the books. The new Khorne characters are neither in the Bloodbound Battletome nor the Grand Alliance Chaos. Durthu is as legit as Archaon.

If your "friends" are dicks like this, forget about wyldwoods and that formation, play the Alarielle's Heartwood Grove formation instead. No Wyldwoods but pretty strong. What forces do you actually have?

Was thinking about the formations but it costs alot of money for 3 treemen that i cant afford haha. My force is

Durthu/treeman ancient (havent built him yet)
Branchwraith
Allarielle
Spellweaver

16 dryads
20 eternal guard
10 glade guard
5 sisters of the thorn

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Other guys in group have skaven high elves which have alot of firepower which murder me before i get across field so i bought a treeman and though i could try teleporting to the bolt throwers and warp lightening cannons via the walking the spirit path thing and giving myself a chance to take down war machines

I would probably argue pretty hard to keep Durthu, he's listed in the SCGT points pool at 18pts which seems fair. If the tournement allows him you gaming group should because, as far as I know, he's the only Sylvanaeth with a command ability. Does your group intend to stymie your Sylvanaeth thematics by *forcing* you to take a wanderer general? <-- Sounds over dramatic? Good, make this tyour argument

If not then decide within the group how many comp points a Sylvanaeth Wyldwood is worth and simply pay for them. 5 seems more than 5 considering 5 points is the same as a Dryad unit.

Well, bolt throwers are app-only, so right off you can say that if they are running those then you can run Durthu. Other than that all I can suggest with what you have is to run a better comp or talk to your opponents about how best to give you a chance at winning.

They really have no reason for you to not play Durthu.

Seconded/thirded whatever - there's already plenty of evidence that GW update the app pretty frequently including corrections. If Durthu's on that, then he's "valid".

Pretty sure that is 4. I don't see how that could be otherwise.

thanks for mentioning that. I checked it out and it's pretty cool. My only issue is I wish there was an Alarielle Warscroll :(

I'd wait a bit. Balance of Power telegraphed Alarielle coming back with extra bad ass at some point.
