Please comment on which you feel is the better choice and why you would buy it over the other.

PS4. I had an XBox and have a 360, and after ten years I actually prefer the PS controller. I also "trust' Sony more than Microsoft, but that may be for entirely subjective and emotional reasons.

Although I hear they may have since solved this issue, the lack of backwards compatibility to my 360 games is another reason why I switched to Sony this gen.

PS4. Because Xbox made half a dozen announcements relating to unsellable games, cameras that won't switch off, having to be connected to the net to use, and so forth. I don't like what they were trying to push their console in the direction of, and so won't buy it so as to not endorse it even if they have backtracked on about half of it.

Not mention the pisspoor has actually had a better game range so far.

Been a PS fanboi for years.

Never had any issues with it hardware-wise / subscription-wise.

Also, I simply can't stand the xbox controllers and their peripherals.

PS4 is a more powerful machine. I've always preferred Xbox controllers and disliked PS ones. Exclusives are personal taste.

My last console was a 360 before switching to PC, so I likely would have gone with the Xbone just for the familiarity.

It depends on what you want to play and if you have mates playing on that console. I almost exclusively play on Xbox.

Good point.

When I get around to it, we'll start with the XBOX One, mostly because we have a huge Rock Band catalog on the 360, and there's no cross-service migration. Serious gaming is on the PC anyway.

I gave up on PC for most games a few years ago. I got fed up trying to constantly make games work. Always seemed to be some issue that cropped up that required hours of fething around with settings and drivers in order to run anything. I pretty much only use my PC for strategy and MWO these days.

Everything else is PS4. No real reason other than it seemed to have the slight advantage on comparison reviews and of the few exclusives that exist these days, the PS4 ones interested me more.

Still play the 360 a fair bit too though.

PS4. Its design in terms of compactness is nice from how its a lot less bulky than the Xbox One and it doesn't use a massive power brick for power, so if there's considerations for living space, the PS4 is more flexible.

Personally like the PS4 controller more, since several games make good use of the built-in speaker that IMO increases the immersion of some games (like in Infamous Second Son where you get phone calls via the speaker) and I use the share button to catch buggy or silly moments in game pretty easily.

Game wise it really depends. A lot of the exclusives are carry-overs from the last gen console so if you're a big Halo, GoW fan you'll probably stick with the Xbox One. There's a few that aren't that turned out to be sleeper hits like Until Dawn and the PS4 also has some more JRPG games like P5, so if you're into that the PS4 is more up your alley.

I honestly don't think there's a huge difference between xbone and PS4, they're pretty similar and have pretty similar specs and library.

The biggest difference between them, I think, is the paid subscriptions, and in particular the free games you get every month.

I had xbox gold with the 360 for some time, and they gave out old, but still AAA games for free every month. They weren't always stellar, but I thought there were enough decent ones to make it worth the yearly sub price.

I've has PS+ for a year, and of the 24 free games I've gotten, like 2 have been ok. and they're ALL indie games - if you're into that, fine, but they don't really hold a candle to the xbox offerings. And, granted, maybe there's not much of a PS4 old game library, but hell, they could toss some old PS3 games our way maybe.

Anyways, from what I've seen, the xbone games with gold are generally much better than the PS+ ones. That's the biggest difference I've noticed between them. I have already canceled my PS+ sub, might renew if their game selection stops sucking.

Xbox One. The controller is much better, Games with Gold is way better than PS+ and Live is much more stable and secure. Multiplats tend to be more stable on X1 as well.

Aside from very old games (or those lumbered with the unfortunate remnants of GFWL) this has never happened to me and I have 264 titles in my Steam library alone.

PS4 because that's traditionally where JRPGs go. Also Bloodborne and The Last Of Us remastered are good fun.

Even though I have a ps+ account, it's not really worth it. The free games are hit and miss.

The one thing I really like about it is the PS4 link with the Vita though, it's nice being able to play games while the wife is watching TV.

But in line with the OP's question, I would say it all comes down to personal preference and circumstances. Which exclusives do you like more? Which controller feels better? Which one can you actually fit somewhere? Just ask yourself that and you'll figure out which ones better.

I like my potato of PC more than my PS4 though, so... Yeah.

I still have a PS2/Xbox 360/Ninetendo wii and a PC ..have seen no need to upgrade the 360 or the PS2 the WII turned out great when i used controllers instead of that silly motion thing ...That being said am condering an xbox 1 .. but not for another year (let them get the rest of the bugs out and have more than one or two new games and not just games that can be gotten for the 360 as well)

So I've no interest in owning either console, but as far as controllers go I own, use, and love my Xbox controller

When I was a kid my neighbor owned a PS2 that we had fun playing on, but since then I've had more fun playing with my cousin on his Xbox

I dislike Microsoft with a passion, and have enjoyed Playstation since the original so I went with a PS4.

That being said, it all comes down to game selection. I'd base it on that and only that.

Whichever you have more friends to play online with. If more have a Live account go with Xbox, if more have a Plus account go with that. Anything else is basically "Kirk vs Picard" silliness.

I'll be picking up a PS4, entirely because of Persona 5. There aren't any other exclusives I'd want to play for either, and P5 is a pretty big deal for me.

Yep, nothing could make someone feel justified going for console in place of or addition to a PC. Perfectly superior in every way imaginable.

I guess the only thing that could screw up a platform so devoid of flaws was if it had a large contingent of overbearing fans that insist on bringing it up when it isn't even part of the framed conversations. Thank god that doesn't happen.

Easily recouped in about 1-2 years if you buy games even semi regularly. You can get a basic, but still decent, complete set up for about £450

Extremely rarely, it has never happened to me in about 20 years and 5-6 systems (2 of which I built myself).

We have a PS4, although I might not be the best person to recommend it atm as we're about to send it in for repair. Can't play games which need cd drive as we get an error message. Then again I switched previously from Xbox 360 to PS3 because of red ring of death problems.

Up until this issue I've enjoyed playing Destiny, Elder Scrolls Online and Shadow of Mordor. Not fully got into Witcher 3 yet and found save system in MGS V too annoying and counter to open world gameplay.

They have it is called a mobile phone, Almost everyone has a 3ds and many have more systems, bu these days most japanese are glued to their mobile phone screen.
Rental DVD's and CD's are still a thing in Japan, so consoles are used for that as well.

I have and love my Xbone. I prefer the exclusives for it, the controller feels better in my hand, and I have never had an issue with Live. Games with Gold is a great value, and backwards compatibility is rolling out, and usable.

But if you get one, spend the extra money and get the elite. The 1TB SSD is awesome, and the elite controller is probably the most comfortable thing I've ever held.
