Without watching the battle report:

1. The Chaos Space Marine is a Chaos Sorcerer with Mastery Level 3 attached to a unit of cultists (cheapest troops a CSM arm y can take).

2. Some of the items on the Daemon Princes are called "Greater Rewards'. You pay for these rewards in your list building, but the actual effect is random each game (roll on a D6 chart). The Balesword (not bilesword) is one you can give them if you trade in a reward for it automatically.

So for each Daemon Prince the build would be:

Daemon Prince of Nurgle w/ Wings, Mastery Level 1, 2x Greater Rewards.

I would give them armor, and I would also try to get their Mastery Level up to Level 3.

I don't see the CSM detachment helping much honestly. If I was going to build something like that I think it would be:

This type of build is often referred to as a "Flying Circus".

Pro: It's monetarily inexpensive compared to other armies. A GUO is like $70, 3x Daemon Princes are about $40/each, Belakor is about $40, and 2 units of Plaguebearers are about $50 ($25/each). So total cost is under $300, pretty hard to beat that.

Pro: It's scary to go against, and can be a pain to kill without the right tools. It has a strong (not the strongest, but good) psychic presence for buffs and witchfires.

Con: It's fallen out of favor due to the new mission type added in 7th edition called "Maelstrom" which is turn by turn scoring, usually objective markers on the table.

Con: There's not much room for error/forgiveness. Losing any of your big daemons is a huge chunk of your army, and they can potentially be 1-shot by lots of weapons. Anything that is Strength 10, Strength D, or causes "Instant Death" can 1 shot a Daemon Prince who isn't buffed up with psychic powers.

Con: Daemons can be a bit wonky with lots of random tables. Psychic Powers aren't 100% reliable either, so it's going to be a weird first army I think. But rewarding if you figure it out.

First and always, get a copy of the Rulebook. The cheapest way to get it is to go on eBay buy the small version from the Dark Vengeance set. It usually goes for like $30.

Daemons recently got an update with a supplement found in the "Curse of the Wulfen" campaign book. It has new relics, psychic powers, formations, and warlord traits. Definitely worth getting, but this isn't necessary until you build your army up and figure out how the basic parts of the game work first. Formations can be confusing to new players.

It's tough to limit yourself to one god for a strong list. You can make fun lists sure, but they're not going to be super competitive.

For Daemons, good Nurgle choices are:

1. Daemon Prince of Nurgle for your HQ
2. Plaguebearers and/or Nurglings for troops choices
3. Plague Drones, often accompanied by a herald with the "Grimoire of True Names"
4. Soul Grinders of Nurgle with Phlgem Bombardment.

For Chaos Space Marines:

1. Chaos Lord with mark of Nurgle on a Bike with Powerfist/Lightning Claw. Other upgrades to flavor.
2. Plague Marines with Meltaguns/Plasma Guns in a rhino
3. Chaos Spawn with Mark of Nurgle to accompany the biker lord
4. Chaos Bikers with Mark of Nurgle
5. Maulerfiends (not truly nurgle, but they're not aligned with any god) Paint them green
6. Obliterators with Mark of Nurgle


There's a million possibilities and builds, so I'd suggest you do some more research into what you want.

Most of the time it's best to start with 1 HQ choice and 2 troops. If you go Daemons I'd probably get a Daemon Prince and then a box of Plaguebearers and a Box of Nurglings. This will give you almost a 500 point army.

Pick that up and a Daemon Prince of Nurgle and you can probably get to almost 750+ points depending on upgrades. It's a pretty good deal.

Great Unclean Ones aren't super good because they're so slow. But they are pretty badass, and the Forgeworld model is definitely fantastic. Up to you, but I'd probably pick that up later when you move to 1500+

Yeah I like that one. The only issue is it doesn't have wings, or options to add them without conversion work. It doesn't really matter, but I always felt odd about him flying without them so I gave him a jetpack.

Alternative chocie is to just buy the plastic daemon prince kit. He's not as Nurgley, but he is still a good choice. Also the Nurgle prince kit is Finecast, which is kind of a pain in the ass to glue.

Those are often re-casts. Be careful, the quality can be gak. I have no experience with buying that so I can't be too helpful.
