Hey guys,
Pretty simple question, which of the campaign books should I get first. I'd like to get one with the most BATTLEPLANS and unique battle rules such as time of wars. If it had good Stormcast formations that would be even better. Which of the four books best fills these requisites?

-My young pupil... you seem to have this unholy addiction to Ultramarines. WE MUST TEST YOU FOR HERESY. -Inquisitor mean man
Ultramarine army- 10k
Imperial knights- 2
Vampire counts- 2k
Eternity King- 3k
Dark Eldar: Eternal Thorn 1300pts
And lots of other armies, I just cant fit them here

I only have the first book and the Gates of Azyr, which is just a novel. Both are amazing storylines, and I recommend them both. The first campaign book has great lore, and the battle plans are a lot of fun as well. So if you just want it for the scenarios, I say get the first book.

Godbeasts (Gothbeasts) is a good candidate - it has the most battleplans, 4 time of war sheets (global rules for the battle), some very good maps and an even more bombastic story. Definitely my favourite of the 4 so far. Also, It's 5 quid cheaper than the rest

What would you guys recommend for fluff based books?
Im not currently playing aos so not really interested in warscroll/rules stuff at the mo.
Any good reads to get a sense of the current setting?

Hm, I didn't think I'd ever do it, but for an all around look on the setting, the first book "Age of Sigmar" should do the trick. As far as novels go this http://www.blacklibrary.com/aos/whaos-novs/realmgate-wars-1-3.html should get you the most bang for the buck, but IMO stay clear of the novels and just buy the hardback rulebooks. IMO, they're definitely better (mostly because of the pictures) at portraying the setting (which isn't much of an accomplishment to tell you...)

If you don't care about fluff, you can download all the battleplans and time of war stuff from the app. It is cheaper than buying the books. (Still rather expensive though.)

Well, i'd go without books in the first place. You have access to the warscrolls. In this way, you can pick your faction if you havent already. Them you could buy / unlocks single formations.

As long as you understand the basic premise of the setting then reading the Realmgate Wars novels is your best bet. There is more depth to the characters (Stormcast particularly) in the novels than in the rulebooks. Also much cheaper.

For fluff if you only can afford 1 book then the first one would be the best buy. Stay away of the novels, they are really bad even for BL standards.

I thought I read somewhere some people were saying the Black Library Age of Sigmar books were really good? Is this just white knights defending Aos BL books or just difference of opinions?

Probably different expectations rather than different tastes. I've stated my feelings on the novels several times already(including here). I'm firmly on the boat about them not worth their price (or any price on that matter), but they're part of GW's wide spectrum of products - somewhere out there there are people that LOVE them.

Indeed, it also helps that you "connect" with something in the books. So a novel focused on the hallowed knights is going to be aces with a hallowed knight fan (like me) while undead players find Nagash and Mannfred to be worth the read.
