Wanted to share a list I've been working on since the publication of the Cyclopial Cabal. I played a poorer version of this list before, and am now making a legality check and also sharing for fun. I've beaten a RW bikespam list and a Tau with Stormsurge (to have a hard counter as a test in the match, Stomp and D that is.) The list:

+++ Chaos Star (1499pts) +++

Cyclopial Cabal

Sorcerer [Additional Mastery Level, Bike, Force Axe, Melta bombs, Power Armour, Spell familiar, Veterans of the Long War]

Sorcerer [Additional Mastery Level, Bike, Force Axe, Melta bombs, Power Armour, Spell familiar, Veterans of the Long War]

+ HQ +

Chaos Lord [Juggernaut of Khorne, Lightning Claw, Power Fist, Sigil of Corruption, The Blood-forged Armour]

+ Troops +

Chaos Cultists [7x Cultists]
····Cultist Champion [Autopistol]

+ Fast Attack +

Flesh Hounds [18x Flesh Hounds]

++ Chaos Space Marines: Codex (2012) (Combined Arms Detachment) ++ [Crimson Slaughter]

Cypher

On average, the star is Invisible and has Endurance (FNP 4+.) All the Sorcerers re-roll failed Psychic Tests. Cypher gives it Shrouded and Hit&Run, the Crimson Slaughter Sorcer gives it Prescience with the Balestar. The KDK Hounds and the Lord enjoy Blood Tithe bonuses, and can also summon Daemons. The Sorcerers can also summon Daemons if you feel a need to get more bodies on the table. MoT Nurgle Spawns function as objective grabbers/tieing down chaff, the cultists sit at home objectives.

With Shroud of Deceit it also steals those Hunter's Eye Gravcannons, and I used the Stormsurge to shoot it's missiles and its S10 AP2 Large Blast -gun on the Tau Command Squad. Sweet, sweet Tau tears.

The Sorcerers can also roll Warp Speed, use Force, and slap 4 Instant Death AP2 attacks per body (or more, if you get other bonuses on.) They can also opt to just Shriek if the situation demands. A Stormsurge lasted one turn against this list when I played; after that it was dead from all the Shrieking, Powerfist attacks, Cyphers plasma, Flesh Hounds and Meltabombs that it got on itself twice thanks to Hit&Run.

Other options include to remove the CS sorcerer and take a Khorne Mark (Counter Attack for the whole star) Chaos Lord with Axe of Blind Fury.

In theory, if I got it right, if you have Hammerhand, Prescience and tithe Rage enabled, the hounds will put out 72x S7 attacks with re-rolls. Add to that the Plasma of Cypher, the Force Axes/Meltabombs and the Powefirsts and there WILL be blood.

To get hammerhand you need a bit luck, i don t think you take 6 sanctic, and why using cypher by curiosity?

Hit and run.. that cypher? Slows you down a bit but I guess you can spread put. Hmm.

Cypher is in for the Hit&Run, and he also grants the whole unit Shrouded which can be very beneficial if you happen to roll Night Fighting.

He doesn't practically slow the star down at all (this is also how Nurgle Drone Star is played) as you can just congaline a few doggies to keep up with him. He also has the ability to run AND shoot, and Fleet so he keeps up better than average.

I'd only roll for Hammerhand myself if I was facing a mechanized army or one comprised of Imperial Knights, otherwise I find it's not required. Another tactic is to just tie down the superheavies with the dogs, and summon as much stuff on the table with tithe and spells as possible while spreading into an MSU type of army in order to just win at objectives.

When a unit includes a model with the counter attack special rule only the models with the counter attack special rule get the benefit of the counter attack special rule.

If, however, you have one model with defensive grenades (blight grenades) the entire unit benefits (iirc).

That's true, good catch. Luckily not a big deal, the star hits quite hard enough even with just some models having counter attack.
