I don't mind too much about competitiveness. Is it a requirement to take chapter tactics?
I am probably using the codex as counts as for my Iron Warriors 30k army in 40k games.

If you don't want chapter tactics, you could just play as Chaos Space Marines.

Which would make sense, given the fact that you are playing as Iron Warriors.

30k Iron Warriors have more in common with 'modern day' loyalist Marines than they do with Chaos Marines. From a fluff standpoint, it makes more sense to use a non-Daemon/Chaos affected Marines Codex to represent Heresy Era Iron Warriors.

The player at my club who does this uses Imperial Fists as the CT - the siegecraft bonus against buildings fits reasonably well.

If you don't want them then maybe play UM but never enact a doctrine?
