Hi there, I'm currently working on a ruleset for skirmish level pirate battles. I'm looking for folk who would be happy to volunteer some pictures of their crews/terrain to appear in the book. You would of course receive full credit and a pdf version of the rules once completed. I'm also looking for people who would be interested in play testing the game.

A very brief synopsis…

'Ahoy and welcome to Cutthroats & Corsairs, a miniatures game that puts you in charge of your own crew as you either embrace the way of the pirate by looting, stealing and plundering or attempt to maintain order and shut down piracy with your colonial forces.

Cutthroats & Corsairs requires you to have relatively few models per side, offering an inexpensive entry point and making each miniature that you have put the time and effort into painting, a key player in your crew. Forays can consist of as little as 3 miniatures per side and anywhere up to around 7 per crew provides a game that should last hour or two.

The game centres itself around the so called ‘Golden Age' of piracy. The rules are designed to give a cinematic playing experience and borrows as much from swashbuckling adventure films as documented history. As a game system, it therefore may not satisfy those who are looking for a gritty, historical representation of this period, but for those of us who enjoy feats of derring-do and fast paced action, Cutthroats & Corsairs offers plenty of both.'

Let me know if you'd like to hear more.
Thanks

Oh, this sounds ace.
Colour me interested in playtesting.
I've got my Warmachine pirates ready to go, they're hardly display quality but could be placeholders for a while!

Is this supposed to leverage Rum & Bones miniatures?

Why wouldn't we just play Rum & Bones?

Or for that matter Blood & Plunder

Or Cutlass or Freebooters Fate or a hundred other Pirate themed games?
Because pirates are cool and each game has something different to offer.
Why play any other Sci Fi game other than Starwars Monopoly?

Different isn't necessarily better, and if it's not obviously better than Rum & Bones, why should anyone bother?.

Because this is a game in development and there's a chance to playtest it, give feedback to improve it and make it better than all of the afformentioned games put together.
Now that's a long shot and I have no idea of the OP's pedigree but it seems fun to help and I might learn something.

Why ever look at anything but the best, finished miniatures?
Are you really trying to tell me that Rum and Bones is the best Pirate game that ever has or will ever be created?

It seems like you've drunk a lot of Kool-Aid to convince yourself that this particular pirate game has so much potential, when absolutely nothing has been shared about it.

Right now, all we have is a brief concept. There's no detail.
At least Rum & Bones exists and can be evaluated.

Within the pirate genre, Rum & Bones is the floor for quality. If you can't exceed that, you might as well not bother.

It's like opening a burger joint and not being obviously better than McDonalds. If you can't step over that low bar, don't waste anybody's time.

Nobody is shooting anything down, because there's nothing to shoot down.

You're sounding pretty negative though.
This isn't a fresh Kickstarter that needs to be hung drawn and quartered for being terrible.
This is a fresh Dakka user using this board for spitballing, which is exactly what it's for.
Cool your jets hotshot.
