Lets say an enemy unit targets you when you are locked in combat. I.e. Renegades of Vraks shooting you with artillery. Can one elect to jink if they are able?

They are targeted by a shooting attack in the shooting phase, so we are good so far.

But is there anything in the combat rules that disallows actions like jinking in the shooting phase?

Aftermath can be calculated.

How are you targeting a unit that is locked in combat with a shooting attack? Would a unit locked in combat be a legal target for a shooting attack?

If i recall properly there is some special rule on Vrak's forgeworld book, about allowing some commanders to *fire* upon enemy troops even if they are in melee combat (sacrificing their units).

Rule wise you can declare to jink when targetted by enemy fire, being in combat is irrelevant as Jink count as a cover save *jinking* in combat should provide 0 benefits for the melee phase but at least allow some cover save from the shooting.

Nova powers say they 'target' each enemy unit within range, and it's a shooting attack. I'm not sure if there's a caviet for not targeting units engaged in combat though. That could be a scenario for this.

Though Nova powers also ignore cover so Jinking would be pointless...

OP: Artillery can't target units locked in combat. They CAN hit those units but they wouldn't be the target and thus can't Jink unless you're using some kind of houserule. In that case, you're going to have to ask the person who made the houserule.

EDIT: Ah the above poster pointed out a forgeworld rule that allows this. Ok so I guess they can Jink because all permissions are met.

A nova psychic power for example can hit models locked in combat. Also you can be targeted by Fyodor Karamazov calling down his Orbital "By any Means Necessary" Strike Relay on top of his own units.

In Vraks there is a rule specifically allowing the player to target a unit in combat if the shooting attack has the blast and barrage special rule. SO yes, it does allow shooting into combat.

My question is, can I jink against this attack.

I.e. My bikes are locked in combat with cultists. He decides to shoot a squad of Thudd guns at my bikes. Can I jink? I can't see why I couldn't, but I am looking for some support on a counterargument.

well, you can declare a jink whenever you're targeted by a shooting attack RAW. being locked in combat doesn't change that, so you should get no argument from a rules stand point.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Nothing prevents you from jinking in combat, no.
