Greetings!

A friend and I have decided to take the plunge (again) into X-Wing and see how things turn out. We're both buying Core Sets (He's getting the Force Awakens and I'm getting the standard) then splitting them. I'll be with the Rebels.

That being said, any good advice you can give to a new pilot based off what I'll end up having and what would be best to expand to if necessary?

Depends what you want to go for, but at the very least the blisters of both x-wings so you can have all the options handy.

If your just playing casual games buy whatever takes your fancy, all the classic ships from the movies are worth having.

If your thinking of tournament play that will require buying ships for other factions to get cards so you have to plan ahead.

Either way welcome to x-wing.

It is indeed amazing that ships from previous waves are still very much present. Although you will get lists au goût du jour as new waves come in, it also revives old classics as well.

So my big question is this; is the Millenium Falcon an auto-buy must have? I'm thinking of running the Outrider instead as my medium class ship but it seems like the Falcon is a must purchase to be effective, both for the upgrade cards and the ship.

Your thoughts?

It's a must-buy, but more for the upgrades (engine upgrade and veteran instincts) than the ship. There are plenty of good lists that don't use a YT-1300 and you can be a successful player without ever taking one, but there a lot of lists that use EU and/or VI and you'll be severely limited in your competitive options if you don't have those two cards. On the other hand, if you can proxy cards that you don't own then you won't be missing anything and taking the YT-2400 as your favorite pancake works just fine.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

My thought was possibly just getting the upgrades cards individually online as an option then running the Outrider. Probably 2 of each of the ones you had listed. That might be my most financially sound option.

You'd be surprised how much individual cards go for online nowadays, especially the "must haves" like Veteran Instincts and Push the Limit.

In some cases, it's better to just buy the ship they come with; a lot of retailers offer pretty good discounts.

Not these days y-wing's with twin laser turrets eat them for breakfast, tractor beam armed tie defenders can remove their agility, crackswarms tear them up.

For casual play they are okay but the days where the falcon was a must buy are over.

Wait. There might be a second edition of the Falcon with Rey as a pilot and an upgrade card ''get cover from stray crashed star destroyers'' coming out soon.

Gotta feed the mouse!

Between a YT-1300 and a YT-2400, I feel that the 2400 is a better buy for a casual player. More of the upgrades in the package work well for the ship itself.

I don't go in for buying upgrade cards individually, though I know plenty who do. FFG has done a better job of spreading those cards around in different expansions, and getting the whole expansion pack is usually cheaper than buying just the cards you want.

Indeed... totally creepy. From now on, I expect people will be digging through your trash bins just to see what else you leak in advance.

I'm much more tapped into the W40K lore, due to my Eternal Crusade connection, but no one seems ready to believe on those either.
