Hey guys, I think I'm finally wrapping up my ground forces for my Crimson Fists and now I'm looking to perhaps add some flyers to the force. My FLGS has a used, primed Stormraven for sale for 2/3 of RRP. Is it much good though? It seems decent but expensive. What kind of support does it need? Currently the only thing I have on a flying base is a single Land Speeder Storm for my Scouts. Will I need to expand a lot to make the most of this thing?

Stormravens are blech outside the one formation with the Talons.
Talons, though, are pretty cool.

It's probably the best assault transport marines have. It's not a bad gunship either, but IMO it's a transport first, gunship second. It's also pretty awesome when someone brings a cookie cutter list of Eldar/SM deathstar/ IK lists etc, rarely bring any kind of anti air. It's kinda cool when you can derail a WAACs game plan by playing keep away and taking pot shots with high strength low AP weapons from a platform they can't touch.

If you can get past how utterly stupid it looks (and some people think it's quite nice I guess) then they are really good on the table

Totally redundant now that there's the option for the Land speeder + 2x talon formation. If you really want to assault something on turn 3 or 4, then I guess they're OK, but I'd suggest that a land raider variant would be a better choice and allow you to assault something turn 2 or 3.
When a land raider is a better option than you, then something has gone horribly wrong.

A LR isn't necessarily a better option. It's easy to grav-mobilize or glance out. The Raven is only taking snap shots until after its delivered the troops and it's weapon options are much, much better. Not to mention the LSS or MM attack bike you save in the points difference.
