A new project I have in mind: As many Devastator Squads as possible on the table.

I don't really mind going unbound that much (Which seems likely considering it's 10 Dev Squads and 7 Dreadnoughts), but I'd like to know if there's a formation or some shenanigans to get close.

Any information (Even it's to tell me there aren't any shenanigans) is appreciated. Thanks lads.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

There's a Forge World character who lets you take Devastators as Elites, and a HH rite of war (I think for Death Guard) which lets you take Legion Heavy Support Squads as non-compulsory troops, but I can't think of any battle-forged way to get pure devastators.

If you don't mind forgoing Grav Cannons, then Flesh Tearers Strike Force for BA lets you take 1 HQ and 1 Troop to give you more points.

Alternatively, you could spam Skyhammer, keeping the Assault Marines minimum.

Think Sentinels of Terra let's you move Centurions around the FOC, if you're not opposed to them.

Another way is to run a five man tactical for each five man devastator unit, so it looks like the full ten man squad has split into combats. It isn't perfect, but it reflects what you want to do on the table top (the extra sgts aside) and keeps it battle forged.

The new Sternhammer SF from the Angels of Death book.

You need to be Imperial Fists (or at least use their CT)
You need either a demi-co or a centurion siegebreaker as a core
Then you can take up to 12 loose dev squads as aux choices. Also dreads.

If you want to go with a bound list, going to be hard to get better then that.

Yeah, Sternhammer is pretty helpful in this regard.

Also, I'm guessing this is from a fluff perspective? You can justify plenty in that case.
Taking the Demi-Company as the core gets you a bunch of Tac Squads, an Assault Squad, and a Dev Squad.
Limit the Tacs to just a single Heavy Weapon and call them support/depleted Dev Squads.
Assault Squads can be limited to Bolters and then put into a Razorback as some extra back field fire power.

Then add in all of the solo Dev Squads like Nevelon mentioned and you've got yourself a 9th Company!

Gotta hand it to GW, they've managed to make the internet panic about a formation consisting largely of tac marines.

To add onto the sternhammer suggestion:

Go with an 8th company seigebreaker cohort to act as the wall for which the enemy assault will crash against, and to act as your shield as the guns of your devastator squads hammer against the onslaught of the enemy. The 9th and 8th companies working together is fluffy.

Example list: 1800 points

Seigebreaker Cohort:

2 Centurion assualt squads (8th company) Vet sargs, flamers assault launchers

Ironclad with seige hammer and CCW (Both Flamers) in a drop pod (9th or 8th company colors, whatever you want)

Auxiliary:

Skyhammer Annihilation force:

2 8th company assault squads: Jump packs, 2 flamers, melta bomb

2 9th company Devastator squads: 4 Grav cannons

Auxiliary choices:

2 9th company Devastator squads: 4 heavy bolters each

2 9th company Devastator squads: 4 lascannons each

1 9th company Devastator squad: 4 flakk missile launchers

smash the enemies own heavy guns with a devastating assault with the skyhammer and the ironclad. and hammer the enemy with your own big guns. Keep the centurions in cover in the front lines to counter assault and keep those melee units away from your weight of fire.

Another way to do it would be to take the AoD Armoured Spearhead which is chapter agnostic. It means spending some 750 points on landraiders or whatever 3 whirlwinds and a techmarine costs as your compulsory, and then all the devs you can carry as 'mechanised infantry', which contributes to your 1+ auxiliary slot.

I'm pretty sure that's what at least one version of the brodex astartes commends as standard 9th company organisation so you're gold. Or Green, if you use salamanders with meltas for this it will be truly *truly* silly

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.
