Subject: Suppressing Fusillade and Units that may not go to Ground

Conversation sparked up during a practice match where the devastators from a skyhammer annihilation formation where firing at a monstrous creature. These devastators have the special rule
Suppressing Fusillade
So targeting a normal unit of say Space marine scouts, pass or fail they will no longer be able to fire overwatch. This led to what happens exactly with the Monstrous Creature... Well if they pass leadership they can't fire overwatch, if they fail they must go to ground, and their rules specifically state they can not go to ground. So is it then the case that, if a Monstrous Creature is targeted, that player wants to fail morale (most likely on 3d6) because the disallowing of going to ground would allow for that targeted unit to fire overwatch!
That is how are group interpreted the rule on the spot. What do you all think?

That seems entirely correct. A unit that can't go to ground would benefit from failing the Ld check.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Of course almost every Monstrous Creature (barring maybe 2 or 3, not including FW) are Fearless. So this will almost never come up.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Like I said there are maybe 2 or 3 non- FW MCs that do not auto pass morale tests. Dreadknight has ATSKNF instead , and Riptides have nothing. Pretty sure most Daemon MCs also do not have Fear, but they have DI, which is similar enough for the purposes of this discussion.

Bikes can't go to ground either. There are many Bike units that aren't Fearless.

Most Tyranid MCs are not Fearless independently. There are only a 2 or 3 who have Fearless on their own. The ones with Synapse and One Eye.

Actually almost every Tyranid MC is fearless, unless it is a Synapse creature itself.

Carnifexes and mawlocs are not fearless and do not have synapse. Not 100% on the hive crone and other FMC, but I do not think they have fearless/synapse either..
Riptides and ghostkeel all so do not fearless.. actually very few MC I would say do have fearless

Both Carnifex and Mawloc are fearless as well as Hive Crone. In fact, every MC in the basic Nid Dex has Fearless/ Synapse.

RAW, this seems to be the correct interpretation. However, I don't think this was the intention. I'll be talking to my group about houseruling this one.

Just triplechecked. Every Tyranid MC except the Dimachaeron has either "Fearless" or "Synapse Creature" in their special rules. Carnifexes and Mawlocs both have the Fearless natively, even if they are not in synapse range. Same with the Harpy and Hive Crone.

In any case, fearless is kinda irrelevant here as MCs have a completely separate rule saying they may never go to ground.
In their case it's not a result of being fearless.

Your kinda missing the point. Fearless MCs auto pass the check, meaning they cannot fire Overwatch. MCs that fail the morale test cannot go to ground therefore suffer no ill effects.
