How's it going, quick question, I'm thinking of possibly starting AoS, my mate has a really annoying Seraph on force and I wanted to try and possibly beat him, and also so that I'd have my own army, and wouldn't have to keep using the stores.
OK so here's how I was thinking of starting, buying the Start Collecting Malignants (more so cause they look cool and reading the rules seemed strong) and then getting Arkhan the Black.
How does that sound?
Cheers

What annoys you about his Seraphon force? Do you prefer undead in particular?
Perhaps more importantly, what comp are you using (if any) and how badly do you want to beat him?

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.
I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games. |

His seraphon force is annoying because he has lord Kroak(I think) and another dude and he just summons the stuff he loses and I wanted to combat his ability to do that by doing and yeah I like the way the malignant stuff(more so things like the hex wraiths etc) over most other stuff (save Fyreslayers).
I don't quite understand what you mean by comp so I can't really answer that question.

Ok, well malignant stuff doesn't tend to hit too hard but is pretty durable overall because they are 4+ ignore rend. What you will want to do is get malignant units up in his face quickly; he can't summon within 9" of your guys so you will want to surround him such that he has no space to summon new units. Arkhan the black is great for this since he gets a bonus to summon while his command ability increases the range of spells. Also you might consider some Morghasts since they boost summoning and are extremely powerful in melee. I would reccomend Morghast Harbingers specifically since they charge on 3d6 meaning you can summon them 9" away then easily make it into melee the same turn. A mortis engine will not only boost your spells within 12" but reduce your enemy's spells as well.
Note; do not buy Arkhan the black individually, instead buy the start collecting skeleton horde box; it costs $3 more but comes with Arkhan and a bunch of troops besides (the black knights in the kit can be built as hexwraiths instead). With the start collecting malignants box alongside that you'd have a pretty solid force.

Sweet with summoning, it says death wizards can, does that mean that as long as the unit has the keywords, Death and wizard it can do it,and that sounds like a smart idea, thanks

I'm a seraphon player and these are good tips. Also if he has a bastiladon look for units that dish out mortal wounds. That is the best chance for bringing a bastiladon down.
