While it doesn't quite hark back to the days of Fat Dwarf, it's certainly better than it's been for a long time and has some solid content which is, as has been commented on perhaps a little light. The important thing for me though, is that it is content. Take the AoS stuff for example. I've never played a game of AoS but I'll still read the battle report and the Tale of four Warlords article because I always liked the battle reports and loved seeing how other people collected their armies.

I also think that they might be taking a throw everything at it and see what sticks approach for a couple of Months, which I think somebody mentioned earlier. This is something that I don't think is neccessarily a bad thing if it's the case, particularly if they keep up with the letters page, as it indicates that they might actually be starting to listen to people.

I realise that this is GW I'm talking about but I'm feeling kinda charitable, given the decent start they've made with it.

In my mind, $9 was more than fair for either the mag of this size OR the mini, so getting both is a nice bonus.

Flicking through mine and it looks fantastic so far. As a fan of both AoS and 40k (although not an active 40k player) there is lots of content in this for me. The extra board game rules are especially good. For DW:O you get an entire new team to add to the game (fluff wise the first team that got wiped out) - which you can build from the new DW sets. Looks like a very fun project to do once I finish my DW:O.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

This is the big thing for me as well, I always read every page of the old WD (except maybe the LotR stuff, just to see what else was out there, and for the great pictures of minis. I haven't followed GW stuff in years, so I'm expecting this to be a nice catch-up just to see what the current state of things is. The Imperial Knight bit is appreciated as well, because I'm grabbing a copy of IK: Renegade on Friday when I pick up my WD. I don't see myself ever getting back into proper army building tabletop gaming, but I love the idea of the self-contained boxed games, so if this sells me on a few of those, then it's done its job.

The fact that a visible WD team is back is a big plus for me too. I was never terribly keen on the anonymous feel of the magazine when they did away with it. I alway thought it felt a little impersonal.

The magazine gets a massive thumbs up from me. Highlights:

- Temporal Distort, a retro review of an old White Dwarf. It's like a Kid Kyoto review.

- The boardgame rules. I only have DW:O but they've given me another 6 characters to play with. Awesome!

- The letters. One is an angry letter about points being added back in to AoS and one is calling for 40k to be streamlined like AoS and LOTR... Wow, they don't shy away!

- Blanchitsu! Yeah it's back! Even if we've already seen it all on Ironsleet

Well, that's all I have had time to read so far. The battle report and tale of generals looks amazing. If you play BaC it looks like they give you six extra missions !?!?

I'd certainly recommend picking it up. Even if you aren't a fan, you'll be getting a model out of it for just shy of six quids.

All of the posts I've seen from those who received a copy today are from the UK. North America will probably take a couple more days.

Anyone mind saying what all six of the Deathwatch Overkill profiles are. I have seen the Flesh Tearers, Novamarines, Crimson Fists, and the Howling Griffons characters, what are the other two? I will definitely be building the Novamarines character (maybe the Flesh Tearers character as well).

Just rules for the White Dwarf. Nice, but another character wasn't really a priority for Silver tower (there's tons already), whereas another mission would have been nice. Hoping they add a few more missions on the silver tower tiles, or a longer term experience system at some point.

IKR, it's an old-timer who preferred people fudging and eyeballing it. The response is that there's 3 ways to play so he can continue to play Open if he prefers it.

Weirdly I own the original issue of WD that came with the air vent pieces for Space Hulk. I guess it's an update to that concept.

If I can scan those rules and then print them and mount them on card (like the other 4 nuQuest expansion heroes) then I think that would make me buy the Slayer model (I refuse to call it the WD).

I had chance to sit down and read through it last night.

Overall I enjoyed it, and I am happy I took out the discount years sub, I think I'll get my money's worth from it.

As others have said, the articles are a little lacking in depth, but it is a huge step up from the picture book white dwarf had become, and there is room to improve.

I'm not an AOS player, but I enjoyed the pieces anyway, and found plenty of content for things I do play. Photography is still excellent and it feels like a quality magazine.

Its not perfect, the writers need to step up a bit, but it is an enjoyable read.

As an aside, with the bank holiday on Monday and getting the mag yesterday, it looks like they probably posted these last Friday, so on a normal month subs will get the mag close to a week before the shops do.
