Okay... random idea after reading the Death From The Skies supplement and remembering Perturabo's relentless strategist rule:

Lord Of War: Perturabo, Angel's Wrath, Warlord

HQ - Legion Centurion, Artificer Armour, Meltabombs, Bolter

Troops - 3 x Legion Tactical Squad, Artificer Armour, Meltabombs, Storm Eagle, Twin-Linked Lascannons, Shrapnel Bolts

Fast Attack - 3 x Xiphon Interceptor, Ground-Tracking Auguries

Heavy Support - 3 x Fire Raptor Gunship, Shrapnel Bolts

Technically, I guess it could fail to turn up, but that's nine units and Master Of The Legion to try for a reserve manipulating warlord trait, so the odds are pretty good.

The idea of a 'Skysiege' force seems cool - trying to think of reasons it doesn't/can't work. Any thoughts? Anyone seen/tried something similar?

Was thinking of running this my self with salamanders.

However, I was swapping out xiphons for lightning's instead with the oh so beautiful armourbane missiles.



Play wise it should work.
Your essentially safe from every strength D weapon in 30k as most are blast weapons.

Your safe from every blast weapon.


I think the only thing that could be a pain is sicaran heavy lists or when the add more AA units to 30k.


Alternatively a friend of mine rather likes to spam contemptor talons with twin kheres each, which prevented me running this idea.

Oh, I know there are opponents it'll struggle against. Flying into a wall of helical array guided assault cannon fire will not be fun. But "how to win with it" is stage two, as long as it's useable, and if half the fighters turn up, there should be enough punch to have a go at suppressing flak in a given area.

I see no reason why it wouldn't work tbh.

It's safe from a large chunk of the weapons in 30k due to low strength or lack of skyfire.

Personally I think it will work out pretty well.

....actually, thinking about that: the main threat to flyers is either other flyers or is dreadnought-shaped. The reaper waist turrests might be a better option with their effectiveness against AV12-13 targets. Quad bolters just look so damn cool, though...

The xiphons should remove dreadnoughts pretty easily.

I think anything AV 14 might be a pain to shift though.

This seems like it would be pretty fun and real shift from the "standard" IW playstyle. Please let us know how it turns out if you try it!
