I just bought a starter box for space marines, and it came with a venerable dread. My current "not canon at all" army requires some modification, though. No icons, no bright paintjobs, and references to real world military units.

The current dread has a list of embossed names of battles on the side, and the effect is striking for such an old piece of gear. I would like to greenstuff it over, then use something to replace the names with real world battle locations, like Ypres, Bataan, Somalia, Sadr City, and the like.

have any of you had experience with stamping or freehand embossing? I suppose I could do this with decals, but it wouldn't have the same effect as the current model.

I figure you could learn to do brass etching to get a similar effect.

Could you pick up a printing set for little stamps? You might be able to find printing bits of the right size.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

easiest way to do it would be to chisel/file out the area woth the name, leaving just the border/trim, fill it with putty and carve in your new name. Milliput should give you a nice smooth finish.

SO much cheaper/easier than going the embossing route

I'd second stamps, or potentially getting custom transfers (fallouthobbies)

Also there's fluff for that chapter. Reasonable Marines
