"The 41st Millenium, the time of the Galaxy at war. These are indeed strange times, when saying certain words kneel down entire planets or dissolves your right to live, and when the strength of a hero can surpass the one of entire armies. It's the nature of these times that while some few hold the power of everything, millions have to endure a hard life with nothing but the hope of being mere, disposable souls fighting for a righeous cause, a reason to live and die for. There are millions of soldiers like these, with no names or importance, that fight with their lifes to make a difference for something that seems untrue, but represents a brief light of Heaven in the darknees that follows the gates of Hell.
This is the story of some among those millions, some who give of themselves to the light of The Emperor and Humanity. This is the story of the Grenadiers of Ritterstaat."
Well, here I am, presenting my first 40k proyect, with nearly no modelling or painting knowledge whatsoever. This is surely going to be a tough one.
I've been following this forum for a while and all of your submissions have given me strength to start my own. This thread is a reason to keep me motivated on this proyect and share my progress/challenges/problems with all of you. As I said, I'm new to this wargaming world, so don't expect any "1st price painting model" here, but I'll try my best for it to be best I can achieve, and I would really appreciate feedback from all of you, guys.
So, I'm planning to start an IG army, with a german WWII style, but I don't have any specialization in mind (infantry, mechanized...), so for the time being I'll just stick around making the basic units and updating as much as I can.
Right now I'm waiting for some bits I ordered from the US (I'm from spain, so don't expect them to come tomorrow), so I'll show you my first minis as soon as possible.

It's finally here, and way sooner than I expected!!
My order from Mad Robot Miniatures just arrived and I have to say I love this resin bits, their quality is simply great. I really look forward to work with them. But I think they'll have to wait. Being as new as I am to modelling, I don't think any resin bit deserves to be built and painted with such unexperienced hand as mine, so for the time being I'll stick in doing some regular infantry or Scions, whatever I can with the bits I have from previous boxes. (Probably Scions XD).
Also, my father is a great guy and has given me a 1:35 Panzer VI Ausf. A he had forgotten about, so i feel this is being a great proyect start
Oh, and here are the bits I ordered: The Commissar's kit, some officer torsos, legs and more

I've been thinking about organising the proyect a bit, because I feel I'm wandering my imagination and planning things at random, so I've decided to make a list where I put all the things I would like to start doing soon
1 Scions squad (I started them yesterday and I'm making a conversion similar to this one, I really like it)
About 2 Infantry Squads + some special weapons (flamethrower, melta...)
The Trojan Logistical Support Tank using the 1:35 Panzer IV, mainly for practice with vehicles
Some special characters (Commissar, Officers...)
I won't start doing other stuff until I finish at least the Infantry Squads, just in case I end up procrastinating with them
EDIT: Right now I'm my season of exams and works, sooooo yeah, don't expect something new for the upcoming 2-3 weeks. Sorry for the inconvenience

I bring good and bad news, gentlemen!
The bad news is that I couldn't do anything this week so I can't show you any update on the proyect. It seems being in summer vacations doesn't mean having all the free time I need.
And now the good news! I've been talking with a couple of friends of a friend of mine which are veterans to 40k and they've given me some feedback about my plans on this army. They've told me I'm planning a bit too much (and too difficult stuff for a guy with my knowledge on the hobby) and that for someone like me it's better to go in a slower pace than what I'm doing right now. I've taken their opinion into account and I've been rethinking what I'll do with the army, so instead of overthinking about conversions I'll just go with the usual IG until I have enough experience to go for it (there will still be some conversions, but they won't be as much as I first planned).

Hi, there! I know it's been some time since the last time I posted anything, but I've been with other stuff lately. I've set this hobby apart for some time, but no worries, gentlemen, I've strarted again, and with more strenght than ever! ( crowd goes wild for waiting too much)
First off, I wrote some intro to my army when I had some time, and now is in the first post so everyone who enter this blog can see it, go read it, because... Why not? Anyways, on to the army!
So, in terms of normal IG, I currently have what's in the photo. A HWS, two Chimeras (one of them open-topped), a Leman Russ, 3 Infantry Squads (2 of them are from a friend, but he let's me use them, so great for me!), 2 Command Squads (these are more of "oh, so in the Command Squad box comes more special weapons? let's buy them to make Veteran and SWS options!" kind of Command Squads, that's why they all have special weapons) and a Scion Comand Squad (for my same friend), but I use it as normal Scions. I have more in boxes unassembled, but I'll show them when I build and paint them, no worries.
Everything from here (except the units from my friend) will eventually become troops for the Ritterian Army
As I've said before, I've started again, and here are my first minis:
These are 4 Sergeants who will be the leaders of my first 4 Infantry/Veteran Squads! After a lot of time I've decided to go with a urban style uniform I really like, after discarding other styles. I'll explain the reason for it to being so dark in some fluff I'll post soon. Also, they have the Scions beret heads, I thought they would look great on the Sergeants.
Oh, do you see the one with the grenades? He's the ALLMIGHTY SERGEANT RODRIGUEZ!! He's actually a reference of something that happened when we were starting with 40k. When we were playing, an Infantry Squad got ambushed by the Orks and stayed the nearest they could to the guardsmen. On the IG's turn, a soldier we later called Private Rodriguez threw a grenade, but when scattering he killed himself and 3 Orks. Now that I'm making my own army I've decided to promote him to Sergeant and make him a new mini!
Anyways, hope you like them, this time you'll see me around more often

I know! White and red goes great with darke grey and black. The only problem is that, since most of the uniform has dark colours, highlighting them would be great, but I don't really know how to do it. I should get some painting lessons

To be honest they dont look like they really need a highlight, but if you really wanted to, you could put a wash of nuln oil in all the recesses of the fatigues, and then using a fine brush pick out all the edges in a slightly lighter colour of grey.

The funny thing is, they already have nuln oil. A friend of mine thaught me how he painted figures and I followed his path. What I do is paint the basic color and... wash the entire mini in nuln oil...
I was thinking of following the tutorial of the guardsman in warhammer TV but with my own colours, but your advise is also a good one. I might try both in some minis and see which one is best

That looks to be a good solid start mate, liking wear this thread is heading. One tip i have is paint as you go or youl end up with an hole unpainted army. This is oryte for some as the can paint all that in a month or so but i find that having a hole army to paint(espechily one so similar as with guard) can sap the sprite. You can always repaint them at a later date. Good luck and il stay tuned.

Yeah, a friend has also been telling me the same thing, even though it was too late for me
I've certainly learnt from that mistake (apart form a couple of other things, I've decided not to buy anything until I've finished painting at least 90% of what I have), but I've been lacking free time for some time due to my studies too, so I hope to return whenever I finish with it

Haha oh well at least you've got a playable army. I find a portable painting table help, that way i can get on with it while i'm watching tv or something.

Hi there! Since I've seen that I can't keep up with the poyect as easily as I first figured, I thought it would be a better idea to start off a new thread showing all the different proyect I'll be involved with. Don't worry though, I still keep this proyect on my to-do list, but I think it's a better idea to keep up with it where all my other things are more than having multiple threads simultaneously. Also, I'm creating a new thread mainly because this one has such a messy start, sorry for the inconvenience, guys
Anyways, here's my new thread: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/722444.page
