Hey folks... Just a quick question, but does anyone know if the current Skinks box, can also build Chameleon Skinks, for Seraphon? How many Blowdart bits come in that kit, if so?

Starting our Seraphon with an order today, but GW direct is sold out of actual Chameleon Skinks and Ebay seems devoid of the models GW has, and instead seems to have loads of the current regular skinks, armed with darts, instead... thus why I ask.

Looking at the sprue (GW has pics), it doesn't look like chamelons is an option. I think similar weapon arms are included but the heads all have the sail/crest. Might be possible if you want to green stuff the eyes and slice off the crests, though.

If memory serves me well:
1. You can only build skinks with blowpipes/shields or with spears/shields (or whatever weird combination of the two you wish)
2. You can build 10 skinks with blowpipes for every 12 models in the box (i.e. a bundle of 24 would give you 20 blowpipes)

Well... that sucks... because that means they're sold out, webstore exclusive models. :-p

Put a notification on them. They come in and out of stock every 2-3 weeks. But sell out in a day or two

That is soooo weird. You'd think a pretty common element of a currently supported army would be easier to come by. Luckily, exactly as you said, they came in stock, and in the literal one day window, I ordered ten for my wife.... By the next day they were indeed sold out again. :-p

I am surprised more people don't convert them though. I didn't realize how cheap regular Skinks with blowdarts were, and they're a unique paint-job, and snipping off their head-fin away from being passable Chameleon Skinks, for literally a third of the price. :-p

Depends on the work you want to throw at it.

The box has enough pipes for 12 (half the box)

Then its a case of;

1: heat the tail in boiling water then curl it up.
2: drill out the eyes, replace with a small ball of green stuff and dot the eye.
3: cut the crest off and GS over it as they wear skins over the crest.

All in all, takes about 2-3 mins tops per skink and you can fly through them.
You can add more though depending on your levels of sculpting.

You will also rarely find them on eBay as the metal ones are quite sought after I'm afraid.

I'm actually pretty horrible at conversions and hobby stuff, but getting my hands on both the actual Chameleon Skinks and their vanilla, plastic-kit brothers, really shows how unintimidated a conversion it would be.

And honestly, outside of some hardcore, no proxy, organized events, I think clipping the head-fin, and doing a cool, entirely different paint-job on plastic skinks, would make perfectly acceptable Chameleons.

Truth be told, if you do even a halfway decent job and don't point it out, nobody's going to even notice.

I got sick of waiitng for chameleon skinks to become available on the GW web store. At Adepticon I bought 10 Skinks with Blow guns for $10, I am going to re paint and you those. Saved myself over $40 as well lol.
