Hey all, So seeing as I'm new to the Horus Heresy era of the game, I started my first army using the Betrayal At Calth set. I'm doing an Iron Hands army, mainly because their style of warfare in fluff fits the style I would like, which to me strikes as combined arms between infantry and tanks is a very shooty army. With the kit I'm going to start off simple, 2 15 man tactical squads, 5 Cataphractii Terminators(My friend who does do 30k said make them as Morlock's), 1 Contemptor Dread with Keres AC's, and from there, will be going to FW to get a Legion Glaive(Because who dosen't love a giant tank with an even more lethal giant volkite carronade?), and from there, not sure where to continue just yet.

Any Opinions, or help would be greatly appreciated!

I'd get a legion speecial unit like the Gorgon terminators and a transport of some kind. The Spartan Assault Tank is an old favorite but of course you should go with what you like. Primarchs are always a nice buy. Consider some fire support like Legion heavy support squads or Deredero dreads. Other than that, you have a solid start to a legion with BAC.

I personally don't play Legions (I play Solar), but I do know that Predator squadrons are amazing in 30k, compared to their 40k versions. Take a squad of them with sponsons and you're good to go.
Best bit is that you can save your self some dollars by getting standard kits from GW.

Autek mor, the ih special character, is one of the best in the game. Him and some (morlock) Terminators in a Spartan is not good buy. Getting 2 medics and 10 more tactical s give you 2 solid blobs. Further along sicarians and predators are always good

I'm not sure what 'morlock's' are, but the Gorgon terminators that are specific to the iron hands legion are very good and scream for either a spartan or land raider to ride it. Throw in a Iron Father with them to be a bigger beatstick and they will hit like a hammer wherever you need them. A glaive is a good choice, I'll probably go falchion or fellblade when I get a big tank (though I play Raven Guard - so it'll be awhile lol) and will serve you well I think. Predator squadrons are VERY good with just basic autocannons as they are 4 shots instead of the normal 2 in 40k. So 3 tanks with autocannon/heavy bolter = 30! shots at a target between s7ap4 and s5ap4 respectively.

Iron Hands and big infantry blobs are quite good. Their legion rules of -1 strength of weapons shooting at infantry is SO GOOD. Two giant blobs of dudes marching across the board can be quite daunting.

The BaC box is a great start, get those put together and play some small 1000-1250 games to get your feet wet with how the armies interact with 30k. It is a little bit different. Good luck!
